Der Begriff "Identitätspolitik" wurde in den letzten Jahren von rechter Politik im Bündnis mit rechten Medienmenschen zu einem Schreckgespenst aufgebaut und dabei bewusst missverstanden und grotesk verzerrt.
Erziehungswissenschaftler Markus Rieger-Ladich stellt den Begriff hier vom Kopf wieder auf die Füße und ergänzt ihn um die "Identitätspolitik von oben" bzw. von rechts. Sehr hörenswert und zur Weiterempfehlung geeignet.
Was mir dabei auffällt:
1. Es fühlt sich beinahe befremdlich an, zu diesem Thema Fakten und geschichtliche Einordungen zu hören, wo doch - auch in den Medien - Lügen und Polemik zum Standard geworden sind. Der Begriff scheint durch seinen Missbrauch wie "Wokeness" oder "Gender" nahezu verbrannt.
2. Christiane Florin, die dieses Interview wie immer inhaltlich kompetent und hoch konzentriert führt, zeigt wieder einmal, wie großartig guter Journalismus sein kann - und leider auch, was anderswo fehlt.

Das Interview ist auch ein schöner Gegenentwurf gegen die Feststellung, dass alte weiße Männer immer alte weiße Männer sind. Kerkeling schreibt rückblickend, wie sehr ihm "Wokeness" heute helfe, darauf zu achten, mit seiner Arbeit nicht zu diskriminieren, Pointen zu überdenken. Es geht also auch in diese Richtung beim Älterwerden.

Was aber gegen jede 'Heilige Schrift' der abrahamitischen Religionen, also Judentum, Christentum und Islam spricht: Sie werden als Worte eines allmächtigen Gottes verbreitet, ein Gott, der alles geschaffen haben soll. Also auch die Naturgesetze.
Nur steht in keinem dieser wortgewaltigen Werke irgendetwas über diese Naturgesetze drin. Klarer Fall: Es sind keine göttlichen Worte, sondern von Menschen erdacht und aufgeschrieben, die von diesen Naturgesetzen keine Ahnung hatten.
Ich will niemandem seine religiösen Legenden madig machen oder wegnehmen. Wer Trost und Kraft in einer Religion findet, hat meinen 'Segen'. Aber diese Märchen als wahrhaftig darzustellen, ist nicht ok.
I live in a small town in Sweden. This morning I went out to my car (realising that I'd once again forgotten to lock the front door last night), drove along empty, wide roads to the nearest largeish town and parked in the brand new multistorey carpark by the railway station, where the first two hours' parking is free and the remainder of the time is very cheap.
I got out of the car without checking my surroundings, and as I leaned back in to get my bag out, I thought "In large parts of the world, I'd be asking to get mugged, or worse".
Then I walked along the clean, well-kept streets to the hospital, where I waited for less than 2 minutes for my mammography, which was completely free of charge.
This is Sweden. This is Europe. Why the FUCK are we trying to emulate, listening to, investing in or in any way having anything whatsoever to do with the utter insanity coming out of the USA?
And I don't just mean under the current, obviously barking, incumbent. I mean ever? They don't do things like we do. They don't believe in the same things that we do. This really is an us and a them situation, and we've been kidding ourselves for the last 80 years that they're like us.

TL;DR Most EV batteries will last longer than the cars they’re in. Battery degradation is at better (meaning: lower) rates than expected. Slow charging is better. Drive EV and don’t worry about your battery.

5-7 years is new around here. Mine was 11 when I bought it, will be 35 this year.

@renard battery degradation slows down over the lifetime. Although this probably depends on the chemistry.
BEVs typically have lower maintenance, so I don't see why 20yr can't be matched. If (e.g.) 70% State-of-Health is acceptable 20-years in, i guess it's still a viable car to drive.
However, I'm not sure why "20 years" is a metric to hold up against. Is that primarily a financial consideration? Worded differently: Would you buy younger for the same price?
Sadly my first EV was a lemon: 2016 Kia Soul EV that was down to 55% of its rated capacity in less than 4 years (note this is not based on reported range, but measurements of power draw to charge from 0% to 100% with an ANSI C12.20 certified energy meter). Kia refused to honor the warranty on the vehicle so I had to offload it at a loss since I couldn't even complete my commute without stopping to charge.
Now of course there's a new problem: I want an EV *without* the constant-on surveillance and data capture. The only option I see for that is doing my own conversion of an ICE vehicle (which is getting easier and easier these days, fortunately).
It would be so nice to have a single cab full bed EV pickup out here...

This thread is about longevity of EVs. The sales in Norway however, are so cheap (compared to conventional vehicles) that longevity is not a factor. At that price difference, EV would sell even if they were guaranteed (!) to go up in flames after ten years.

My experience seems to support the conclusions. Stable for the first couple of years, then a noticeable drop off after long journeys using high power charging stations.
Not scientific, just personal intuition.
That's great and its an additional reason why if I'll ever need a daily driver its likely going to be electric (at the moment I'd rather take the train as much as I can and buy a fun IC car for that single time each week I need to take a car to go somewhere).
I only hope that when the time comes batteries are going to be easier and cheaper to source. While batteries already lasts more than the expected car lifetime I'm pretty sure that with the reduced wear and tear EV components endure you can easily extend that lifetime. On the other hand I heard EV owners complaining about makers who refuses to sell new batteries (forcing them to source from used batteries from the junkyard) or who sells these at price high enough to make the replacement not worth the cost (despite the rest of the car is in pristine condition).
@ianp5a yeah I think if I were doing just 400km in a day, that would be fine, but on the very worst weeks I can be doing 800-1600km in a day, 5 or 6 days a week. That really, really adds up when you consider time charging, with winter being even worse as I sometimes need to camp in the car, and so use power for heat, boiling water etc.
I haven’t really worked it out, but over a year, it’s a LOT.
That article indicates a ~2.5% drop in range per year, if fully charged and discharged once a day. I don’t know what that would look like for 2-3 times a day.
I’d be very interested in auxiliary charging tech, like photovoltaic roof etc. as when I’m not driving, the car could be stationary for a week or month.
Like I say, my edge case is *very* edge case. And I’m excited about being able to make the jump when it’s viable (or I change jobs).
@SecurityWriter our salesman is always skeptical of any new tech, but he recently told me he'd upgraded to a 2nd EV, which gets 300km range with a heavy foot. And 400km if he takes it easy. I didn't ask which car. He said charging on the road is easy in Germany, but needs planning if he's in France or Italy. People who don't yet have an EV worry about charging on long journeys, but rarely think to install one of the EV charging navigation apps, where you could check out routes of interest.
For me, switching to an EV doesn't make sense for my journeys though. Mostly 6-12km. I'll stick with my pedal bike.
@david_chisnall Well, the BMS inside the battery *should* prevent you from doing unsafe things electrically. Mechanical damage is still a risk, especially from a crashed car.
At @deWAR we are thinking of installing such a battery in the building, or maybe on serendiep.nl/ for electric propulsion. In the building we have a room where the gas boilers are, which is already separated from the rest of the building, so we might be brave enough to put it into operation there...

Wäre es tatsächlich ein Sabotageakt lokaler, linker Aktivisten, könnte eine flächendeckende Videoüberwachung schon helfen, die Täter zu ermitteln.
Allein, es glaubt doch niemand, dass hier linke Aktivisten am Werk waren. Jeder weiß, wer dahinter steckt. Und dagegen helfen keine Kameras.
Somit ist die Forderung nach Videoüberwachung ähnlich einzuordnen, wie die Forderung nach mehr Technik und Personal bei der Polizei nach Anschlägen. Das ist ursachenblinder Aktivismus.
"kann helfen die Täter zu ermitteln" --> hat mit der Verhinderung der Störung oder des Vorfalls nichts zu tun.
Wenn der Vorfall nicht verhindert wird, hat das mit "Schutz von KRITIS" nichts zu tun. Ermittlungsansätze haben schützt KRITIS nicht, es gibt nur mehr Arbeit für die unterbesetzte Polizei.

N-1, Vorbereitung von Ersatz und Wiederherstellung sind die Grundprinzipien die eigentlich zum grundlegenden Verhalten gehören sollten — eben nicht nur in den definierten kritischen Infrastrukturen. Jede Infrastruktur, ob technisch, sozial oder politisch muss darauf vorbereitet sein, dass Komponenten spontan ausfallen. Die Ursache des Ausfalls ist erst im Detail wesentlich, wichtig ist zuerst die Frage ob und wie schnell die Funktionalität der Infrastruktur wiederhergestellt werden kann und was bis zum Zeitpunkt der erfolgreichen Wiederherstellung passiert.
Das bedeutet nicht, dass wir alle Infrastrukturen so redundant aufbauen müssen, dass sie praktisch nicht ausfallen können. Das Wissen darum, dass Komponenten ausfallen irgendwann ausfallen werden, bedeutet aber, dass der Umfang der Auswirkungen vorher entschieden und geplant worden ist. Im Zweifel halt durch Unterlassung, aber im besten Fall durch eine transparent begründete Abwägung und Entscheidung.

Zum konkreten Anlass in Berlin: das betraf durchaus eine Ringleitung. Dummerweise hat man aber beide Zweige des Rings über die gleiche Kabelbrücke an das Kraftwerk/Umspannwerk (in der Karte grün eingekreist) geführt. 🫣
Also weniger ein Fehler der Topologie denn der Topografie.

Note: I tried out of curiosity and research via a local install of flathub.org/en/apps/com.jeffse… and it was really bad: 'open source' AI LLMs model I tried can't make a punchline, or an ending twist. Every story they output can't surprise the audience: they are statistically tropes, story slop, and the ending is always super cringe. But this test was super educational about CPU usage: super slow despite having a powerful computer. Uninstalled.
"statistically" is probably the operative word there, since that's more or less what they are... statistical word generators.
They'll never twist or surprise because they're going for the most likely output from the millions of artists they've been fed (and increasingly, re-ingesting slop).
(Edit: I probably didn't need to say all that, did I? Derp.)

Hello. Want to share a bit of knowledge about LLMs.
They are many layers of connected numbers, modified numerous times to predict what's next in text.
One token at a time (word, piece of word, punctuation, etc), probabilistically.
What happens after text turns to numbers and goes through neural network, is a probability distribution. Similar to Library of Babel, albeit guided'ish. Token #1 is this likely, and #2 is that likely.
And then, sampler (or more often, several) comes into play. Something to not chose most likely (stiff, boring) nor random (model breaks easily) token. Repeats can be discouraged (hi to DRY sampler). Unusual but stable choices can be encouraged (hi to XTC). How about cut-offs (hi to TopK, TopP, MinP, and so forth) of unlikely junk? One can even discourage specific tokens.
And only then, the user asks something, which LLM tries to predict answer to or continuation of.
And... which LLM? There are very-very many, of different purposes and hardware requirements.
Do you see something here? Complexity. What you did is admirable; and in my somewhat-educated opinion, best LLM is below of mediocre human writer.
Still. LLMs can be useful if handled with knowledge of what they are, and of their limits (LLMs have probability of stupid mistakes; no, you can't avoid it). They are (opinion based on Anthropic's research of LLM solving math) bundles of intuition that output probability distribution out of vast sea of knowledge (of varied quality).
I think that the best open-weight (not to be confused with open-source) creative LLM is Kimi-K2-Instruct-0905. If you don't have half of terabyte of VRAM (yes, seriously), it will be slow.
For middle-weight I like Gemma 3 27B, and for quickness, LFM2-8B-A1B. Like 'em all with llama.cpp, and tweak/test stuff lots.
Anyway. AI, is mostly, a plague. For greedy people to get richer, for lazy to get lazier. Even if there is some space for hobby that can improve one's life (carefully!).
Just want to say ~ don't discard all 'cause of first try; the picture is incomplete (and moving).
Wanna a funny example of LLM output? I asked it to use MCTS for fox poem (to entertain self), but it gave a poem about fox using MCTS. What a silly poor thing...

Each rustling leaf, a choice unseen,

Hm. 3 more things (I hope I am of edutainment).
Firstly, another aspect is quantization, or in other words, reducing precision (and space taken) of numbers so LLMs will run quicker and in less of video memory (or just RAM, if slower pace is acceptable). There are various formats of it, and llama.cpp uses GGUF format with... very many types. And less precision loss sometimes makes models more stiff (hence why for creative purposes I often prefer Q4 or Q5 quants).
Secondly, LLMs have limited context ~ literally, number of tokens they can process at maximum (and it is another setting to tweak, and possibly quantize).
And 3dly, despite this being a hard thing to get (LLMs are generally trained for "correct" distribution), seeking edge cases and prompting fun ideas, can give good results sometimes. Here is example, of Kimi-K2 (via Groq, 'cause running this giant mainly from SSD is too slow even for my patience).
The prompt was... Please write a short and funny story about small dragon that tried to "terrify kingdom" but failed and only gained adoration due to being adorable and silly. Try to include some dialogue.
And here's some moments that Kimi actually did surprisingly well...
Tonight was his Terror Debut. He practiced in a puddle:
Flicker (menacing whisper): “I am death! I am doom! I—”
Puddle: blorp
Flicker: “Stop undercutting me, water!”
...
Flicker tried again. He landed on the fountain, spread his wings dramatically, and knocked over a laundry line. A pair of bloomers fluttered onto his horns like a wedding veil.
Blacksmith (to his daughter): “Look, sweetie, the dragon’s getting married!”
Little Girl: “She’s so pretty!”

...it's quite ironic, really, that to get funny bits (only sometimes; not reliably), one must already know writing somewhat and have technical skill, too.
At the bottom of Pandora's box is hope. I still wish to be techno-optimist. Like any technology, machine learning can be used for good and ill.
And generally, technology done good for people. History teaches lessons; modern humans are much tamer than tribal ones, food standards are better, there are more obese people than starving (not ideal, but better than past).
So. Take this piece of knowledge not with fear, but with hope. Good humans exist, and do stuff.
Times get tough and uncertain sometimes, but if changes of the past has teached us something, is that making this world better (even in small ways) is very worthwhile.

Though, re-checking all the story, the goth witch looks too young for a post-doc, and also her relation to the info provided by the parrot is really what you might expect from a bachelor or master student, but not someone with a PhD under her belt. A fortiori a permanent researcher would have the ability to check a good chunk of the parrot nonsense, and avoid incinerating herself.
So my personal take, given what we have now could be a witch at the beginning of her PhD, or in her Master's (since she's getting a bit more assertive). A PhD student is a lot closer to faculties and could well be invited for the new year party she's in.

For sure, I think LLM-generated alt text should only be used as, eg. , a quick placeholder text to fill up an editing text-area, requiring a human to post-fix it. I strongly wish the output of any LLM should never go into public or production unsupervised. A human should always be required in the last chain of the process with a strong expertise on the task to critic, rewrite, adapt and make it better.
