Since German is heavily gendered, we have various forms of using gender-inclusive language. Two of them are well established, one using a colon (:) and one using an asterisk (*), for example for (inclusive) "Friend":
• Freund:in
• Freund*in
After I explained to our friend J-- that the colon or asterisk represents us, the non-binary (and agender, non-conforming, ,..) people, she decided to use that as pet name for me. And since the asterisk is called "Stern" (star), or "Sternchen" (diminutive of star, aka "little star"), she now calls me "Sternchen".
So, I sometimes get a message from her that starts "Liebes Sternchen" 😍🥹🥲
Oh, and best of all, diminutive is always neutral in German, so she can't ever misgender me that way.
So, yeah, I am J--'s "Sternchen" ❤️❤️❤️❤️
