My ex wife told me that one of the music department professors was gay, but had married his wife, an independent artist, so she could get health insurance. And I believed this for 30 years until somebody this week told me it wasn't true.
Honestly, I've been divorced a long time, but it's still unnerving how many things she said that were lies that I still believe. I don't think I can even untangle them after so many years.

The space in which it is safe to be submissive is absolutely not the same as the space in which I am dominated.
So many people (most of them cis men) simply cannot understand this difference.
I don't want to be dominated. In fact, there is no greater turnoff. I instantly shut down.
What I want is to be able to trust someone so fully with my safety and emotional care that I can allow myself to express complete and total vulnerability to that person.

Those are such vastly different spaces as to be essentially mutually exclusive.
Vulnerability is my most closely guarded secret.
I'm so good at making people feel like I'm being vulnerable when it's all an act that I have fooled multiple therapists. I have a wall around my vulnerability so beautifully designed you would argue with me that it didn't exist at all.
"That's not a wall," you would say, "That's actually you being vulnerable and not admitting it."
And all the while, I have built a projection of vulnerability on a wall you literally cannot see.
Hell, many people reading this will say I'm incredibly vulnerable in my writing… because I'm that fucking good as a writer. I'm so fucking good I can make emotional distance look like vulnerability.
But to be safe enough to be actually, truly vulnerable with someone?
To let go of all of my guards? To exist in a space where I allow another person to take the reigns and be in control? To exist in a space where I am not hyper-vigilant to another's goals or needs or desires and where I just exist in the moment?
That is the face of my god.
You keep writing things that make me go “Yes, this, this is me.”
I think the closer dynamic is DDLG, rather than D/S, but that also has problems because I (and I assume you too) am not a little, and even if I was, that comes with a whole load of other incorrect assumptions.
