What's interesting with Google is that the founders are still in control, and still somewhat involved.
Google has 3 classes of shares, A, B and C. The most common public ones (GOOG, class C) offer no voting rights, another slightly more rare class (GOOGL, class A) give 1 vote per share. The founders have ultra-rare class B shares with 10 votes per share, and still control more than 50% of the company.
So, if they cared to step in and change things they could. But, I get the impression that they're so caught up on the idea of AI that they'll do whatever is necessary to get to AGI first.

depends on whether you want the serialized over-the-wire representation to be readable or not. most people glaze over if they see IRIs everywhere, idk why. so they want shorthands. which means it's no longer unambiguous.
i'm not sure which is the lesser evil, to enforce IRI expansion or to get rid of it completely... but it's the worst of both worlds to not go all the way in one or the other direction.

Hm, #selfhosting mail is still quite painful, and although @mwl covers all bases with #RYOMS I don't know whether I will be able to get the "reputation" to be able to use my own mail server.
However, I realized, I mostly want to be able to receive mail on my own server. This is crucial because mail is a very cursed weak link for authentication and in many cases, access to my mail means access to my account. And this would be my mail provider as well as state actors. In order to mitigate this, hosting my own MTA should suffice.
Sending mail is the thing that's actually difficult but also not needed to secure for my threat model. Mails that I am sending will likely end up on a cloud server anyway and I also simply can take care to just not depend on it being private against state actors/the hoster.
I hope to switch to a static IP here soon-ish and that actually sounds like a workable setup...
Would be very interested in only having to (really) take care of the receiving side.

I use duocircle.com/email/outbound-s… to send mail (alerts, password resets, etc) from self hosted apps. It’s free up to (I think) 1k/month and around $10/mo at the next tier.
I’ve also used mailgun.com for a Ghost blog and it has a free tier allowing 100 emails/day and some monthly limit I don’t remember.
For the volume of mail I send either of these work, but not sure if it would be sufficient for a general use email server.
