I was thinking about it the other day, but is it even possible to really record all internet traffic all the time evene if one technically had the access to attempt it?
The sheer absurd amount of data generated per day, as I understand it, would bankrupt basically any nation, would it not?
Could the USA even keep 100% of even just its own traffic stored indefinitely?
for reference, cloudflare store about 300 fields of data per http request they see, and process in excess of 20M per second, and also store every DNS request despite being about 20% authoritative and a couple of roots, and also store the first 140ish bytes of 1 in 8192 packets that pass through their networks. And that isn't as wildly expensive as it first seems it might be.
These numbers may be under estimates as my info is old. This was required to provide service, but if surveillance was the purpose then there's more that could be obtained as well as cross correlated... And then you just kept the result of that.

When trying to renew already up to dat docs, with all supporting documentation also being up to date. They also took all those docs away, too.
