Yeesh, girl, episode of what? Sorry, I'm not in the loop and don't see anything current on imdb so I've no clue what you're referring to.

btw i did the whole helix tutor yesterday and while some things felt mindblowing (splitting into subselections and cursors) i'm not keyboard-only enough to use it comfortably. i like to mouse around in my editors, to adjust splits, click on tabs etc. also, terminal rendering gets too slow somehow on 1440p on my machines. gvim could be an option (and is faster), but i think it's back to emacs. could probably tweak my config to add some of the things i occasionally miss from vim.

A reminder that increased levels of geomagnetic activity *are still happening RIGHT NOW* and it's a good idea to take a peak at night to see if there's any #aurora out there.
Als Antwort auf Mallory's Musings & Mischief

Because the infamous @lisamelton just boosted this, I will remind people of a few tips to spot the #aurora:

- Don't expect to see colors as vibrant as you've seen in pictures. Cameras are better at capturing aurora than your eyes.
- Get out of town and away from light pollution if you can. It's basically impossible to see if there's too much light.
- Use your smartphone camera if you aren't sure if you're seeing it. Use Night Mode (or whatever it's called) to take a multi-second exposure.

Als Antwort auf Mallory's Musings & Mischief

Additionally,

- Use a tripod for taking pics if you've got one.
- The #aurora is very ephemeral. It can come and go in a few minutes. You might need to wait if you want to see it.
- Look north and along the horizon.
- If you were just inside or driving a car, give your eyes several minutes to adjust to the darkness before giving up.
- I cannot stress how important darkness is for seeing the aurora. Put down your phone. Turn off the lights. If you can't see the stars, you won't see the aurora.

In Ukraine, the shelling persists,
A tragedy that cannot be missed,
Despite peace talks with Turkey,
The violence is murky,
A war-torn land where hope sadly resists.

Best wishes to the amazing Marc Maron as he prepares to retire his epic WTF podcast. He and producer Brendan McDonald joined EFF’s “How to Fix the Internet” in 2022 to discuss saving podcasts (including their own!) from patent trolls. Give it a listen! eff.org/deeplinks/2022/01/podc…

Edit: Several takers, will re-post in the very unlikely event that they all fall through.

For sale, pick up in City of Monash within two weeks.

Solid Tasmanian Blackwood dining table and four padded chairs, possibly leather. 100 × 170 cm.

Asking $100 which is a ridiculous bargain but I know I won’t get any time-wasters here. Save me having to go to gumtree.

people posting about 'agentic' software development come into two camps: super enthusiastic and mildly disappointed. the most common take is that these two groups of people just have different expectations, and measure success differently

I have a different theory

I think the people who are really stoked about agentic software development using LLMs are working on projects that are worthless boilerplate with no meaningful differences from the existing corpus of software, and the people who are disappointed are trying to do something meaningfully novel

and LLM tooling only supports one of those

As the saying goes, those who don't remember our history are doomed to repeat it. That's what inspired Martin Mycielski to compile what came to be known as the Authoritarian Regime Survival Guide for unsuspecting Americans at the onset of Trump's first term. And now, months into Trump 2.0, perhaps it's time—or past time—to dust it off once again. thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p…

Remember though that authoritarian states always replace the intelligent with the loyal, and what makes them fall is not their power over you, but the rot inside.

So some sad #11tyCMS news... As much as I love MDXEditor, its got gorgeous UX but its NOT performant in any way. Once you've typed a lot, it begins to lag out and craps the bed.

Worse yet, someone did submit a bug report a while ago about this, but the maintainer just closed the issue without explanation? I've commented on the issue, as has one other person to confirm that this is still a problem but I don't have high hopes.

The next editor will be easy-markdown-editor.

Nope... I was wrong again. The next editor will in fact be easy-mde-editor. I've gotten my head out my ass with its minor issues in comparison to the problems caused by using TipTap. AND its FOSS.

This is my PhD thesis

I did not ask for this

I did not consent to this

I did not approve of this

I was not compensated for this

I would not have advised this

I do not like this

And worst of all, the number of people who've read my thesis has still not increased.

this happened to one of my articles on Academia as well. After fuming about it for a few days I decided I should write to them and object. So I clicked the link - and it appears the podcast hasn’t been published and I could choose to keep it hidden. I did; and then added an angry comment as feedback.
