I also wanted to add to that toot that imho Bluesky/ATProto is a great example of narrow protocol design. And it has a lot of advantages if one can start their greenfield approach in that way.
By having a dedicated team able to freely make technology choices, standing on the shoulders of giants and learning from their mistakes. And then subsequently outlining architecture and implementation with intuitive documentation. All major success factors.
For #ActivityPub ecosystem we should look how we can offer a similar standardization process, yet better tailored to social dynamics in our grassroots environment and with focus on an open commons that drives the evolution.

Someone I was mutuals with, and who shall remain nameless for now, has posted my bio over on BlueSky and they never asked me if this was OK. I’m not on Bluesky and have no intention of ever being there. As a result I have removed my photo - I will replace it with something else in due course; and I have changed my settings here. I was badly doxxed and stalked when I was on Twitter, and I never want to go through the hell I went though back there - ever again. It seems that not only have they posted my bio over there, but done it in such a way that my entire timeline appears over there. I’m shocked, feel a bit sick, and I’m very upset/angry about this.
To clarify from my understanding of what is being described here, Randahl mentioned you in his Mastodon post. BridgyFed, the fediverse/Bluesky bridge, copied that post to Bluesky. Since your own account is not opted-in to bridging, the mention in the post was interpreted by Bluesky as a web link, for which it generated a preview card. The preview card is based on public information provided by Mastodon. There is clearly a clash of expectations here but no malice.

Any person could share your profile link to any website, social network or whatever and see all of your posts. It'ss not a mastodon, fediverse or bluesky problem. That's how it works.

One thing I think that ChatGPT truly *has* changed: I always used to have little day-to-day annoyances about my computing setup (shell scripting, etc.) and ChatGPT makes that *way* easier than google. For example, I was able to ask "when i do option backspace in iterm2 it deletes the whole word rather than the word up to /, how do I fix that" and it gave me an excellent answer
this kind of stuff I used to just ask to people online before and mostly i didn't get an answer, sometimes i did get an answer, often you could find the answer through hours of reading about it but that is just a big pain and not fun
it used to be that you could get better answers by, instead of asking "how do I do X?", posting "Linux sucks because it doesn't do X" and waiting for someone to show up and indignantly explain how to do it.

This is a bit like Wikipedia being a great place to start research, because one gets easy access to new information, but a terrible place to end it, because the very nature of an encyclopedia means that the information is limited and flattened.
I don't want to debate here the merits of AI on an individual level. The point I want to make is that there are different effects on different levels, and our individualistic culture makes it very difficult to see collective effects when they are very different from individual effects.

@nextcloud I’m suspecting that scan.nextcloud.com has a DNS problem for a good week now. No matter which of my Nextcloud instances I put in there to security-scan, the only response I get is “Host not found”. Tried with multiple different browsers, without Adblock/Tracking Blocker, Extensions. Same result.
Maybe your OPS team can find a moment to look into that?

Still flabbergasted that there still doesn’t seem to be any service monitoring in place for these things. (But maybe there even is by now and it’s just not monitoring the right things. That’s also a possibility.)
We‘ll see if it does work again for any other host other than cloud.nextcloud.com in the future.
My guess is that it just makes problems with "new" tld's.. I use a .cloud and sometimes I still have problems with mail providers telling me my domain is invalid.. 😅 But that is just a wild guess. @nextcloud
@Drezil Yeah, email is hard. And there’s pretty much only broken “wannabe email validators ” because the people who implement them have no clue how email works.
I know for sie that the TLDs in my case are not new and all of them have worked in the past with SecScan.

Im allgemeinen glaube ich, daß Kulturkämpfe auch durch geänderte Rahmenbedingungen oder neue wichtige Themen zumindest temporär verschwinden können – was die Sache nicht unbedingt besser macht.
Die Konservativen haben die durch '68 hervorgerufenen gesellschaftlichen Änderungen der 70er Jahre für sich gerne übernommen (wie z.B. sich vielfach nach Zerrüttungsprinzip scheiden lassen, unverheiratet mit der Dame ins Hotel, …) und hatten auch gar nicht das Bedürfnis, das unter Kohl rückabzuwickeln, ohne daß sie ihren Kulturkampf als verloren angesehen hatten.
