Die Gesellschaft hat aber komische Prioritäten, deswegen nehmen wir das in der Breite hin 🤷

Gestern wurde das #WorldPressPhoto des Jahres bekannt gegeben.
Es stammt von Samaf Abu Elouf, der das Bild für die NYTimes gemacht hat. Abgebildet ist der neunjährige Mahmoud Ajjour, der letztes Jahr im März beim israelischen Angriff auf Gaza City verletzt wurde, dabei beide Arme verloren hat. Er war einer der wenigen die ins Ausland (Katar) zur Behandlung evakuiert werden konnten.

Onboarding is often talked about in discussion on why less-technical folks are so confused by mastodon and fediverse, and stick to their centralized platforms.
In your case, where my personal need (and passion) exists, requires me to weigh the chance of your technology approach to reach broad ecosystem/commons-wide adoption.
A large group of devs, your implicit audience, may say "this fits the bill for my p2p app" and comfortably choose to implement as pioneer adopter.
Well, I still need to try to figure out how to even explain what the heck the project *is* to non-technical folks. And I doubt if *I* really could (someone making an end user tool on top of it could?).
I've documented the tusks, tail, toes, trunk, etc.
But I have no succinct or simple explanation for the beast as a whole.
Its all too open-ended and general-purpose - a tool for making tools. But a very very light-weight tool that can do much with little ;-/
Accessible to Jupyter folks....
I've finally got the whole basic system implemented, but if someone asked me "what is it" I have no simple answer.
I can point at the spec-doc/reference, I can demonstrate posting the latest updated working draft of the document to the test node.
But I can't say "it's a __".
It all exists because the primitives looked extensible and so I implemented them and built a couple "for instances" on top of them. (basenet, peerpub).
But they weren't *the* point.

I think most important question is whether your project matches your own expectations, fits your perspectives, and satisfies your passion and dreams.
If your ambition level is the joy of coding and putting in the extra mile to guide others to the benefits of your work, then all is well. You done a thorough job documenting everything, which is highly commendable. How often are the docs missing in FOSS, right?
If you dream big adoption, broad use, then start detailing that picture.
I don't actually know what that picture is. I did model peerpub as something that could be used as something akin to a peer-review journal without a journal... papers with code, and data, and immutable citations, etc. Or as a substrate for doing "federation-like" stuff.
But the whole "point" was to make something general-purpose and extensible (from the signaling layer up).
None of it has *a* purpose its meant for or a problem it is meant to be "the" solution to.
@smallcircles I think of the signalstore as something like a public unix pipe/buffer? basenet as an indexed URI retrievable public data-frame buffer, and peerpub as a "for instance" that you can do with that.
And unfortunately I'm not aware of any existing thing that "iden" is similar enough to that I can point at it and say "it's one of those but different".
I need to do some example notebooks, but still thinking what those should look like and show and suggest doing.
In a very real sense, I just finished writing a whole publication stack to host the documentation because it put off figuring out how to actually *write* the documentation.... and then I found I could have nicely rendered tables and definitions and so I just put in the full API spec and library docs and tried to add what prose was needed around it, hoping that "what it's good for" is taken care of by that.
Also, marketing puts me off, buzz-words put me off, I like details.

Relatable. Marketing puts me off too. Under social coding commons we talk about attraction, potential, opportunities. Natural forces that grassroots movements operate by. Finding incentives to collaborate and have most mutual benefit together, which may be monetary but certainly includes any immaterial value exchange. Some excel with code, others in prose. SOSS attracts/delegates on basis of intrinsic motivation.

I wrote a quick "README.md" for the node so it now has a "homepage" to explain itself and hopefully encourage people to poke at it and play with it (and blog on it?).
I mean it hasn't escaped my attention that I just wrote a blogging platform that I'm not actually "blogging" on, but.. well.. I'll get there eventually I guess, maybe?

So yea.. it's a bit more documented than your average bear .

well, there's something very good in there, I think.
I didn't technical deep-dive and I'm only a 'technical generalist' (generalists are absolute experts in the field of "nothing" 😛), but your approach has something very appealing in how straight-forward it is outlined and set up.
The spec has quality, introduces a protocol, provides a valid use case and reference impl. I'd outline some more possible use cases and then contact possible client and partner projects with your case.
I'm just a hobbyist myself. I've basically worked as a dishwasher since 2013.
I recently found myself unemployed and with enough savings to put off job-hunting for a couple/few months to learn #Rust and port the earlier #Python proof-of-concept into something real and usable.
Now I need to figure out what the heck it all is now that all the parts are together and I can play with it.
And hopefully others will poke at it and I can see how it actually gets used?

I was in the same position with savings in the bank. "Dishwasher" for the #fediverse. Privileged to dabble in #FOSS. I jokingly mentioned that people doing the unthankful chores of community work, #CommonsJanitoring, one sacrifices their privilege and $$$ at the altar of #FreeSoftware principles.
One learns how inherently unsustainable and unhealthy the environment is if you wanna do anything more than hobbyism.
And discussions are stuck in "licensing" ideologies. And donations.
