Mozilla.ai did what? When silliness goes dangerous

Mozilla.ai did a study on generative AI trends and their methodology shows that they should never be allowed near anything AI. Ever.

thanks for this writeup, I just saw it with one eyeball while traveling yesterday and couldn't believe that anyone would think that's a good idea! Also I'd hope that those 35 organisations learned a lesson from this, which is to never engage with Mozilla's “research” ever again!

@gedankenstuecke that's the thing that pisses me off the most. How Mozilla uses it's money for that kind of garbage. Like I want to support the development of Firefox because it's important but I don't want my money doing that

soon you can pick when donating: Should your donation to Mozilla be used for some "AI" bullshit, or for paying their lawyers for discrimination in the workplace? theregister.com/2024/06/24/moz… 🤡

embarrassing. shows they are squarely in the "following" camp rather than "leading", much as any large clueless for-profit would be.

...wat? Good god, this is one of the AI-est things I've seen in a while.

I do kinda want to join some university's Department of Clown Science, though. That sounds kinda fun but I assume it's a mix of English Lit (for the humor), Drama (for the costuming performances), Psychology (also for the humor), and Chemistry (for the makeup). No AI, though, because AI isn't funny in any way that's actually amusing.

1) it is wet
2) you can drink it
3) you cannot breathe it

Next project: Oxygen, is it really important?”

I regret reading this only because now my brain hurts.

Firefox is another AI-booster organisation at this point. They were an absolute giant and a point-of-reference for successful FOSS projects.

Enough though. I am trying Vivaldi for now. They don't have containers support though :(

Isn't public opinion about AI similar to that about GM? They're container concepts, covering many different properties and characteristics, ranging from very good to very bad, and everything in between. Not all AI is good; not all AI is bad. Not all GM is beneficial; not all GM is dangerous. The need for nuance and differentiation is obvious.

The fun part about this clown car is how well it demonstrates AI's speciality: reduction of language and output to the statistical average of the input plus the large model, in other words absolute mediocre gray trash.

The better we make these models, the more accurately average they will get—not more intelligent but simply better at being completely and thoroughly mediocre.
