@simpolomeowastaken That's talking about Assist, one of the totally optional Thunderbird Pro products. For starters, it will summarize your email and inboxes, with more features to be added. It uses LLama 3.2 which will run on NVIDIA confidential compute infrastructure and eventually locally on your machine. It won't use your email for training, and as an add-on, it will only be in the core Thunderbird client if you want it to be. We'll have.a blog post out soon with more about Thunderbird Pro!

@perksofbeingben That's a good question! I've gone ahead and passed it on to Ryan, and we'll try and get to it in our upcoming blog. As for calendar and contacts for Android, we don't have a timeline for those features at this point. ...and, no, it's wholly owned by the same Mozilla Foundation that's been adding anti-privacy junk features into Firefox:

@OctaviaConAmore It's not too clear whether donations to the new MZLA entity are earmarked exclusively for #Thunderbird development, or can be harvested by the parent organization to fund other projects.

I'd want to know because recently I've been donating to Thunderbird and I wouldn't like my donations to be redirected to #Firefox, given its current leadership and direction.

Given Mozilla's history with service offerings lately, I think I'd have to see this not being EoS'd for the next 12 months at least before I'd consider it. And I'd have to have a better understanding of how Mozilla's interest in AI training/datamining is reflected in this service. This was actually one of Google's original purposes with Gmail.

@slyborg These are understandable concerns, and we'll have a blog out soon that will hopefully answer them (which we'll share here). But AI training/datamining is not on the table as part of any of the products that make up Thunderbird Pro.
