We’ve made the hard decision to end our experiment with Mozilla.social and will shut down the Mastodon instance on December 17, 2024. Thank you for being part of the Mozilla.social community and providing feedback during our closed beta. You can continue to use Mozilla.social until December 17. Before that date, you can download your data here (mozilla.social/settings/export), and migrate your account to another instance following these instructions (support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/m…).

Mozilla is such a terrible company, really sucks that they are the only alternative to chromium based browsers, and they still suck as a company.

This is why we need a community maintained browser, something that is made by the community and for the community. Where those maintaining it aren't insulated from the community's wishes. Mozilla is insulated from them and that's a big problem for the future of Firefox, and anything else they make.

with this being an experiment and all, will you write sort of what you learned? What questions you wanted to answer with the experiment and what those answers were?

@tante +1 to this also - I'm particularly interested in what would have made the experiment a success / something worth pursuing?

@julienw @catzilla Why do you think I wouldn’t? Why would you assume I didn’t start browsing with Netscape Navigator 0.9 and on Mac, Win, Solaris/SunOS, …? Why would you assume that I wasn’t involved in Netscape at all? Questions…

I didn’t say that Netscape Communicator was a good idea, did I?

Als Antwort auf Julien W.

@julienw @catzilla I actually did go to the release party of Firefox 1.0. But then, quite quickly stopped using it again. TBH, yes, Mozilla did something good : they invented rust, the programming language.

But the good they did was outweighed completely by the shit they have been doing since their initial inception.

They'll probably move to Threads or even just Twitter, they don't want to hear from us, they want to hear from the people who will sniff farts chasing the AI trend with them until the bubble finally bursts.

Donate to LibreWolf instead. They've got our best interests at heart, at least for now.
