The well known adage

“Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity”
(aka Hanlon's razor)

should not be applied in political contexts. When politicians do or say bad things assume malicious intend is at its origin.

That doesn’t mean there is no stupidity involved. There probably is some, but often it’s often not what’s causing politicians to do or say a bad things.

Assuming it’s just stupidity makes you miss key aspects of what and why things are said or done.

Applying Hanlon’s Razor whenever a fascist politician is saying or doing something is providing them with the plausible deniability that they need in order to destroy democracy and the rule of law before society can stop them.
