Just because some people used a kitchen-knife (a tool) to kill people doesn't mean that I have to stop using the kitchen-knife (a tool) for cooking.

Metaphors can be applied to many situations. Just because some asshole uses it for racist situations doesn't make the metaphor as such bad.
