@pluralistic Care about actual people? Not really. I hear a lot of talk about the list and who's on it, not much about the victims and making life better for them. That's true for both MAGA and anti-Trump voices.
Chuck is staying at the vet hospital for a bit to get some more intensive pain care - still not quite sure what’s up with him, but they were able to express his bladder without difficulty, which is good. Might just need better/different pain meds, might be a UTI, but he will be monitored closely and well cared for until we know what works for him.
I gave him lots of pats and kisses before I left of course. My sweet little boy… get better soon! ❤️

There's a book I've wanted to write for years, and maybe eventually will, tracing the history of computing as properly something like a quest to mechanize thought. You can see it in writing by Leibniz, Boole, Pascal, Von Neumann, etc. Not just fussing with machines/logic, but thinking about thought.
One of the issues I care most deeply about is violence against women. In the works of the philosopher Simone Weil and the French thinker Jean-Paul Sartre, I have found a set of insights which, when brought together, offer a powerful theoretical foundation for confronting those who downplay or deny the reality of such violence.
