Ich habe meine Schülys gestern erzählt, dass ich sowas wie die heutigen Hitzewellen nicht erlebt habe während meiner Schulzeit.
Wenn es über 26 Grad warm wurde in den Klassenräumen ... haben wir auf das magische Wort "Hitzefrei" gewartet! 🎉
Nun wurden wir über die letzten 15 Jahren zunehmend warm gekocht und über 28 Grad in den Klassenräumen, also ein Raum in dem ihr euch eng an eng mit mindestens 23 anderen über 6 Stunden aufhalten müsst, sind nun das neue "normal". (Ich hatte gestern 29 Grad im Raum!)
Nun, wir sollten uns über die zunehmende Aggressivität unserer Kids nicht wundern.
Heutzutage werden lieber Kreislaufprobleme der Kids in Kauf genommen, als hitzefrei zu geben oder das überhaupt umfassende Maßnahmen geplant sind!
Ach ja, diese Fürsorgepflicht (bei Hitze) am Arbeitsplatz - gilt für Schulen nicht!

We should be looking at candidates who understand how younger generations are living and the challenges they face. Offering practical, real and measurable solutions to them. Having an actionable plans to bring those solutions about. And delivering those solutions.
This should be starting day one at whatever level they have power over. Even just via community organisations and mutual aid. Deliver something today, not promise something tomorrow if the stars align and then when you don't deliver, blame the other side.
Thinking about inspiring people before delivering something of their needs is just marketing and there's enough of that out there that they'll see right through it.
They've got to establish a track record of delivering, even if all you can do today is run a soup kitchen and help people hide from ICE.

I know the organizers try to keep expenses low. Sadly organizing anything in NL has become prohibitively expensive & requires jumping through lots of bureaucratic hoops. Cumulative inflation rose to 25% since 2020. Had my doubts on attending due to ticket prices & additional costs as well.

Traditionally the concept of Dutch hacker camps was: everyone is a volunteer & everybody has to contribute to the camp incl buying a ticket. In that sense it was different from conferences. My first one in 1997 even had a communal kitchen, dinner was included & afair everyone helped out incl speakers. It was a community effort.
This spirit is still alive @why2025camp, but expectations, people, prices & the world has changed. Maybe the camps should adjust to this?
Afair there were hardly any sponsors, perhaps some local network or hosting companies & probably with in in-kind stuff like an uplink to the Internet.
Some editions ago this has changed. However afaik sponsoring & the type of sponsors was/is a controversial topic. I've heard that without sponsoring it would be neigh impossible to have an event like this & of this size in NL in 2025. My experiences with smaller events in NL skews towards this sad conclusion as well. 😔

Reminds me of an emerging talent competition for a music festival in Iceland. Pay a small fee, submit sample song and a load of info, panel of judges selects the winners who all play on the emerging talent stage at the festival. What's not to like. Luckily I read the small print which mentioned that winners have to pay all travel, accommodation and food/drink expenses.

2023 hat die Schweiz 477€ pro Einwohner in die Schiene investiert. Das war sogar nur Platz 2 in Europa.
Deutschland hat 115€ pro Kopf investiert.
Die Differenz (362€) mal 84 Mio. Einwohnern, dann landen wir bei 30 Milliarden, die Deutschland strukturell 2023 weniger in die Bahn gesteckt hat, als ein Land das Bahnverkehr ernst nimmt.
Das Problem: schlechte Verkehrspolitik und die Berichterstattung darüber.
