When the Senate says “vote-a-rama,” what they really mean is “we have no idea what we’re doing, but we’re doing it quickly.”
Als Antwort auf God

Oh, they know what they're doing. They're voting themselves money; trying to box us into supporting them; and billing it all to our children.
And, as a bonus, they'll get an "atta boy" from the cult leader.

Happy Gender Self-ID Day to my friends in NSW.
Als Antwort auf Deborah Pickett

Oh, thank heavens. The law was changed a couple of months after I got my name changed. I checked the website earlier this year, and I was surprised the practice still hadn't changed.

At the time of the application I didn't care. The main thing was getting my name fixed on all my stuff. Of course, to do so required repeatedly producing the bit of paper with the 4-letter "M" word (in capital letters!) on it, for every institution I dealt with. So I rapidly started caring.

Nicht "Interimslösung", das hört sich so legal an.
"Missbrauchswerkzeug" hört sich für mich nach einer besseren Beschreibung an. 😜

I wish we had spaces to collaborate on technical work where being a jerk was just not allowed. Like, actual proper fearless moderation.

Your reply starts with "No." on its own line? Two weeks ban. Learn to behave.

You go on a tear about another participant? One year ban. No warning.

I'm a privileged white dude with 20k followers and even I hesitate to contribute to some spaces because of the mailing list hand-to-hand combat.

Imagine how many contributions by talented folks we are wasting!

The IDF just bombed a seaside cafe in Gaza and has so far killed at least 600 civilians only at food collection points. A video just came out of a Palestinian man carrying a bag of flour executed by an Israeli drone. Meanwhile a London court said it’s legal for the UK to sell weapons used in Gaza

The anti-trans backlash mostly wasn't and isn't about trans people, it's about gay marriage, it's about abortion and bodily autonomy more generally, it's about white supremacist "great replacement" fears, it's about parents asserting a right to abuse their kids, it's about Me Too and Gamergate and toxic masculinity, it's about COVID and anti-vax and anti-science conspiracy theories, and it's about bitter, paranoid middle-aged white women and philosophy department dregs scamming for attention.

Als Antwort auf Nowhere Girl

Trans people just became a convenient scapegoat because there's so few of us and we have almost no money and political influence. To the extent the backlash is about us, it's because we became marginally more visible and socially accepted, and the kinds of people who are used to calling us slurs and making us the butt of jokes and writing us as the serial killer horror movie monster of the week thought that was going too far because they felt entitled to shit on us constantly.

Als Antwort auf Nowhere Girl

And I think scapegoat is the appropriate term because this culture is collapsing into fascism and barbarism and ecological catastrophe and people would rather shed some blood, make a few human sacrifices, ourselves included, than face the magnitude of the crisis and their complicity therewith. But if I'm going to be burned at the stake, I want the people watching to know good god damn well they're going to burn with me. Not in hell but here on earth. It is already later than you think.

I've been talking to GitHub and giving them feedback on their "create issues with Copilot" thing they have in the works.

Today I tested a version for them and using it I asked copilot to find and report a security problem in curl and make it sound terrifying.

In about ten seconds it had a 100-line description of a "catastrophic vulnerability" it was happy to create an issue for. Entirely made up of course, but sounded plausible.

Proved my point excellently.

FBI agents briefed Capitol Hill staff recently on hardening the security of their mobile devices, after a contacts list stolen from the personal phone of the White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles was reportedly used to fuel a series of text messages and phone calls impersonating her to U.S. lawmakers. But in a letter this week to the FBI, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) says the feds aren’t doing enough to recommend more appropriate security protections that are already built into most consumer mobile devices.

"If I asked you where the hell we were," said Arthur weakly, "would I regret it?"
Ford stood up. "We're safe," he said.
"Oh good," said Arthur.
"We're in a small galley cabin," said Ford, "in one of the spaceships of the Vogon Constructor Fleet."
"Ah," said Arthur, "this is obviously some strange usage of the word safe that I wasn't previously aware of."

People keep saying that it’s impossible to tell the difference between members of ICE and criminals dressing up as members of ICE.

But essentially, without due process or accountability, I don’t really see any material difference.

How to debug

1. Add another print statement
2. Say "what the fuck"
3. Go to step 1

Als Antwort auf Itamar Turner-Trauring

std::instrinstics::breakpoint() to force a breakpoint allowed using gdb, which made debugging a lot easier.

An historically unpopular president, who currently has our own military deployed on our streets, is asking our elected leaders to pass an unpopular bill that will cause devastating and unpopular cuts to popular services, and the best anyone in his party can muster is “well it’s bad because of the deficit, but I’ll support it I guess”.

Fucking cowards.

Als Antwort auf McNadoMD

its not cowardice, its evil. They've wanted this for literally my entire life and are glad someone else is finally taking the steps they've been too weak to take and kill all the 'unproductive' members of society.

If you think ICE is bad now, just wait till they hire 10,000 more agents and open more concentration camps.

Martin Schröder hat dies geteilt.

Als Antwort auf George Takei 🏳️‍🌈🖖🏽

The fact that there could even *be* 10000 more people waiting in the wings to *be* ICE agents is the most concering implication. Are people queuing up to be inducted into the the hobnails and facemask camp, really? These are ordinary decent people's neighbours.

One last gay thought for pride month: if you’re someone who has never experienced discrimination you may not understand why we need pride and rainbows everywhere. When I see a pride flag, it tells me that I am okay to be here. I look for pride flags to know if a neighborhood is safe. I look for pride flags to know if a business will treat me with decency. It’s the bare minimum and the least effort and isn’t real activism and all the other things, but it’s something better than being openly hated

"It's different now. I don't look at a person for the first time and instantly want to be physical with them!"

Wait! Are there people who's first thought when seeing someone is about sex?!? Is that what allosexual looks like? :blobcatthinkingeyes:

@Fishercat Well, I know one person who went through male puberty and adolescence without this :blobcatgiggle:

And when I started with HRT it confused me massively when transfem people said "finally no more involuntary bodily reactions!"

This might put me somewhere on the grey ace spectrum, I don't know :blobcatfearful:

Looking back to my first puberty, yeah, I guess I was actually just in search of a lovely female friend - a very close one.

Reflecting on all the interactions with girls in my first puberty is somewhat painful but also just plain-stupidly-funny 😂

Yeah, there were no signs my ass 🙄
