I hope you build the strength fight for your needs as a nonbinary person.

Learning to say no, accept help, and take up space are difficult for many people. When much of the world is on a mission to erase you, asserting your basic needs is a heroic act.

It's hard, but you are stronger.

sigh Well, I ended up responding to that macports-dev@ mailing list thread about Ken stepping away.

I did my best to be polite, though I don't think Gagan actually merits being treated with kid gloves, his writing is as immature as a child so given that I am also reading a book titled: Positive Child Guidance? I thought I would put some of its suggestions into practice.

After clicking send, I spotted some typographical errors I wish I could correct, but SMTP isn't as gracious as ActivityPub.

More annoyingly: I lost track of time and ended up missing the start time for a movie I had been wanting to see this afternoon. Not a huge deal, it is screening tomorrow as well. It just means I will be doing a lot more driving I guess.

Nice. #Nextcloud shows that the good old LAMPP stack from the 90ies can still perform surprisingly well. They are among the first software packs that got the blue angel, a german certification for energy efficiency!

anime characters must be so tired of hair in their eyes
Als Antwort auf system err

Early examples of that style are Tezuka Osamu's Black Jack (who had a scarred face) and Matsumoto Leiji's Captain Harlock (who had a scarred face and an eye patch) and the hair in their "eyes" was presumably more to show a bit of self awareness/vanity that they didn't want to be perceived solely for their scars? Or trying to "cover them up" somehow, in a visual shorthand?

Heck, I have one friend who was extremely grateful to have encountered Captain Harlock, as that friend does have scars, and for the first time he saw representation within pop culture of someone who was scarred, but a character with redeeming traits rather than portrayed as a villain as had been previously commonplace in stylistic shorthand.

All the other hair in eyes anime characters I am guessing are more stylistically inspired by their ancestors even if they may not share the scarring rationalization of their antecedents?

"There’s a term for a hostile takeover of a government – whether it’s bloodless or by military force.

That term, friend, is coup. ...

It is a five alarm fire – a rolling constitutional crisis billionaire power grab coupled with the largest cyber data breach in history.

And yes, it is a coup."

Study (N=462) finds even though girls and boys performed equally on a task, girls didn't believe they had done as well as boys. Boys overestimated their competence (relative to girls & reality) & negotiated for a larger reward than the girls.

"Musk’s total idiocy is structural: it goes back to the very origin of the Greek term idiotes, a person who cannot understand the shared political life of the city. These people cannot understand that their wealth and power are not their sovereign creations but the shared product of the wider state and society that supports and sustains them."

Wired: “mastodon” is not capitalized because it’s become a generic term like “aspirin”.

There are two surprising canyons on the Moon, measuring hundreds of kilometers long and even deeper than the Grand Canyon on Earth. While Earth's canyons can form through water erosion, that's not possible on the Moon. Instead, scientists think that they were caused by a giant impact on the Moon 3.81 billion years ago, cracking open the landscape in less than 10 minutes. The debris blanket covers part of the south polar region where Artemis missions are headed.

if you're responsible for a FOSS project, it's now time to consider how you can run your project without relying on the US.

like, using GitHub is fine. Continue using it - I do, too, and there's a lot of value of having projects centralized in one place.

but you **need** to make sure you have a contingency plan. is your repo with all branches and metadata backed up somewhere else? do you own your project's website, discussion forums, or something else that allows you to point your users and contributors to a new place if you need to?

can you continue work on your project if US-big-tech decides your very existence is no longer allowed?

now is the time to take inventory and build backups.

“Every single empire in its official discourse has said that it is not like all the others, that its circumstances are special, that it has a mission to enlighten, civilize, bring order and democracy, and that it uses force only as a last resort. And, sadder still, there always is a chorus of willing intellectuals to say calming words about benign or altruistic empires, as if one shouldn’t trust the evidence of one’s eyes watching the destruction and the misery and death brought by the latest mission civilizatrice.”
