I was able to get mastodon to authenticate after a force quit, but if you frequently like/repost/reply it's frustrating. At the least it would be good to have a way to open a post in Mona. But it's really intended lore for people who just want to follow and not interact. So for me, for instance, it works well for Tumblr, and it might be the one way I'd use Bluesky. Whether I'd replace NetNewsWire with it is still up in the air.

Hasn't it always been?

That's the thing I never understood about MAGA sorts: America was never Great.

At best it was: "towards a more perfect union".

Even after WWII, when US Occupied Japan wrote the Japanese Constitution, the intractable flaws within the US Government were deeply understood, so much so that the individuals (who were Americans) who foisted the Japanese Constitution on their population, did so with efforts to mitigate some of the known vulnerabilities.

Hence: why it is a parliamentary system as just one example.

IIRC, I think the Japanese Constitution also guarantees the right to employment for those who desire it? Among its other provisions.

TL;DR if Americans who were creating legislation, already were writing new legislation for countries conquered by the USA in the 20th century, that didn't have some of the same pitfalls as the USA had and still has in the 21st century, why would anyone ever imagine that the USA could sit on its laurels?

Mir fällt dazu ein, dass es vielleicht nicht unbedingt Rollenbilder gibt, aber schon stereotype Bilder, wie: Die junge, androgyne, blauhaarige Person mit they-Pronomen, die genau "dazwischen" ist, und man sieht es ihr an. Aber vielleicht ist das sogar doch ein Rollenbild.

Ich würde mir wünschen, dass auch das aufgebrochen wird.

Eine Methode ist, dass die Teilnehmer*innen der Gruppe (TG) ein Blatt Papier bekommen und auf der einen Steite steht typisch männlich und die TG sollen ihre Gedanken dazu schreiben und auf der Rückseite sollen sie einen Mann beschreiben, den sie kennen und mögen und dan wird das verglichen und über die Stereotype gesprochen, das selbe auch mit typisch Frau und einer Frau, die die TG kennen und mögen

1. Step, die Jugendlichen beschreiben eine Person, die sie kennen und mögen (es gibt keine geschlechtliche Vorgabe)

Wir begleiten die Gruppen und achten darauf, dass keine Beleidigungen gegen Geschlechter stattfinden und stellen Reflexionsfragen: wie z.B. was ist mit Menschen, die nicht in dieses Raster passen? usw.

Ich würde wahrscheinlich noch drüber nachdenken, wie bzgl. der ausgewählten Person gegengesteuert werden kann, dass das dann gegen die gerichtet werden kann bzw. in den Fokus rückt, wie sehr sie von Normen abweicht – insbesondere, wenn sie anwesend ist. (Also z.B.: Hülya hat liebevoll Mia beschrieben und dann geht's im Gespräch darum, dass die aber gar nicht so schlank ist, wie es auf dem Anforderungsplakat steht. Das kann schon schwierig sein, wenn Mia die 500 km entfernt lebende Cousine ist, aber wenn sie anwesende Mitschülerin ist, wahrscheinlich noch mehr.) Das ist ja eh schon eine Anfälligkeit solcher Methoden, dass manche sehr stark merken, wie sehr sie rausfallen, und wenn es anhand konkret anwesender Menschen stattfindet, sehe ich ein erhöhtes Risiko.

wenn die Grundhaltung bereits ablehnend ist, schließe ich daraus, dass es bei den Teilnehmenden zum Teil bereits Stereotypen gibt. Die aufzubrechen, könnte zumindest ein bisschen dazu beitragen, die Haltung auszulösen. (Auch mit dem Gedanken "kennen sie überhaupt eine Person, oder plappern sie nur nach, was sie woanders gehört haben?", zu reflektieren.)

Ich bin da definitiv kein Experte, aber meine spontane Idee wäre in so einem Umfeld erst einmal binär zu arbeiten und dann quasi das zu "öffnen" je nach Konzept über Frage wie mensch eine nicht-binären Person in dem kennengelernten "Rahmen" einsortieren würde oder falls eher visuell gearbeitet wird indem man dann das breite Spektrum in 3-4 unterschiedliche "Klischee-Enbies" (sehr androgyn, in der Präsentation nicht vom AGAB wirklich unterscheidbar, klar genderqueere Präsentation, ...) baut und dann schaut wie mit den Umgegangen wird.
Idealerweise gibt es auch (vorher) ähnliche cis Gegenstücke um dann nebenbei Gender != Präsentation fallen lassen zu können.

@doppelgrau finde die Idee sehr problematisch, weil sie Stereotype reproduziert und es auch wieder dafür sorgt, dass andere Geschlechter nicht gleichberechtigt Teil sind

mir ist es wichtig, eben nicht binär, sondern von Anfang an selbstverständlich nichtbinäre Personen miteinzubeziehen

ansonsten finde ich ist es eher ein othering, ein ihr gehört nicht dazu, ihr kommt erst danach

Ja, in gewissen Sinne schon. Aber denke je nachdem welche Vorkenntnisse bei den Kindern vorausgesetzt werden können muss ja evtl. erst einmal ein Bewusstsein geschaffen werden, dass die Rollenbilder im Kopf haben. Und die sind bei 95%+ halt rein binär.
Muss ja auch nicht erst in den "letzten 5 Minuten" sein, aber von Anfang an stelle ich es mir schwer vor da nicht den Zugang zu verlieren. (Aber der disclaimer von wegen kein Experte in Didaktik und so gilt weiterhin.)

A few days ago, a client of mine asked me to install an open-source software (which I won’t name for now). The software has only one official installation method: Docker. This is because, as they themselves admit, it has a huge number of dependencies - some quite outdated - that need to be carefully managed and forced into place; otherwise, nothing works.

I tried replicating the same setup on FreeBSD but didn’t succeed, as some dependencies either aren’t compatible or simply refuse to run. I could try finding workarounds, but I can already picture the chaos every time an update is needed.

So, I decided to build it via Docker to get a better sense of what we’re dealing with. The sheer number of dependencies that Node pulls in is impressive, but even more staggering is the number of warnings and errors it spits out: deprecated and unsupported packages, security vulnerabilities, generic warnings- you name it, and there’s plenty of it.

Given their substantial budget, they offered financial support to the developers (a company, not just a group of hobbyists) to help improve the project either by making it FreeBSD - compatible or, at the very least, by reducing dependencies with critical vulnerabilities. The client was willing to pay a significant sum, and since the improvements would be open-source, everyone would benefit.

The response from the team? A flat-out refusal. They claimed they couldn’t accept any amount of money because many of these dependencies are "necessary and irreplaceable, as parts of the code relying on them were written by people who no longer work on the project, and we can’t rewrite the core of the software.” Then came the part that really got under my skin: they stated they would rather deal directly “with my client, not with me, because in the end, my concerns are just useless and irrational paranoia.”

Translation? Just pay, and you’ll pass compliance checks - never mind the fact that underneath, it’s a tangled mess of outdated and insecure components. And don’t make a fuss about it.

While I can understand some of the challenges the team faces, I might have accepted this response if it had come from a group of volunteers or hobbyists. But if you’re a company whose sole business revolves around a single software product (with no real competition at the moment), this approach is not just short-sighted - it’s outright dangerous for your users’ security and for your own survival as a business.

The result? They lost a paying client who was ready to invest a significant budget into their software. That budget will now go elsewhere. My client is considering hiring developers to build a similar project with better security (they have both the time and the money for it). I’ll do my best to convince them to release it as open-source - at which point, a new “competitor” will emerge in the market.

Thing I've become much more aware of: Germany does not have any usefully centralised repository of personal identity.

The actual source of truth is the Standesamt, firstly in your birthplace and then possibly in the place you married if applicable. It appears to me none of their respective databases are connected, and they're wildly incomplete as old data only gets digitised on demand. This is the database I have just spent considerable administrative effort updating. But by itself that has no external consequences; no other part of "the state" is even aware this happened.

For most practical concerns, the much more relevant source of data is the Einwohnermeldeamt, which carries residence information, and has (some) semi-automatic interfaces to other segments of the administrative state. In getting new ID using my updated birth cert, I will update that database, and consequently the other systems that depend on it.

However! That will still only accomplish so much, and various other segments of the state will have an inconsistent or incomplete perception of me for a long time as different actions I take either explicitly or as a downstream consequence update their data.

This is complicated by the lack of a useful universal index to share data with - the closest thing we have is the personal tax ID number, which is issued and tracked centrally but, ironically, itself doesn't carry much data and is barely used even within the tax system. It identifies you for various deductions, but every actual interaction with the tax office itself still requires a tax number, which is inconsistent, local with effective namespacing, not clearly tied to one person and can change for any number of reasons.
When the personal ID number was first introduced, it was supposed to improve communication beyond that - however, in over a decade, best I can tell all of this has yet to materialise.
Compared to trivially global identity in countries like Spain or Sweden this feels... very backwards to me? In some ways it's privacy preserving I suppose, and having a promiscuously shared life long global identifier isn't exactly great either (see also: SSNs in the US), but... this sure is a hassle, heh.
