Which brings me to the group of people who's departure you can be happy about. I mean people who made other people's lives worse. That's the only group. Let everyone else alone.
I'd even have less issues with people openly stating that they are happy that somebody has died, even if I disagree, than with people ridiculing recently deceased. It's just inhumane, regardless of whom it is about.
Nobody gets to decide who we grieve over. Nobody gets to decide what makes us sad, or happy, or any other feeling.
Just let people grieve or acknowledge it, without slinging shit.

In part it's due to my ADHD that I have this tendency to not take myself serious and to not let anyone else make me feel like I have to get a grip on adulting and being serious.
There are some adages in German around things like "now that you are of age Y, the serious/dire part of life starts!"

I'm tempted to move some dormant Fedi accounts to my GtS, consolidating things but I don't know how many I could do. Like can I move my Sharkey and Friendica followers to my GtS that already has 1.8k followers? 🤔
yes, your assumptions are correct :) I now run a multi-user GoToSocial instance :)
I don’t know how much traffic a GtS instance can support. My accounts have like 300 followers at the maximum. But you can still boost a post from a GtS instance with an account that has 1.8k followers. This should make the followers’ servers connect to the GtS instance and see if it supports that many connections.
Side-thought: performance may differ if you run on a supported Linux or FreeBSD platform; I run on the unsupported OpenBSD platform using relayd rather than nginx. So I may not have to fastest possible experience :)
thank you Joel! I run my GtS via YunoHost and I wasn't really thinking of performance issues... just if it's technically possible to move to one GtS instance followers from Sharkey and Friendica. I wonder if you had to have an empty GtS instance to do that... or if it can be "old" (mine is 8 months old).

oh, ok. The migration is about accounts. So I believe that if the Sharkey instance supports migration out, you can certainly create a dedicated user on GtS to migrate the Sharkley account.
Technically, you may even be able to migrate N accounts to a single GtS account. I have not done it with GtS but I did it with my previous Mastodon instance. GoToSocial has like 5 or 6 available "aliases" entries, so I bet you can do it.

With the app, we can monitor household power use. We know when they are home, when they are cooking meals. Given enough data, oh say from millions of digital smart metres you can develop resolution that is as good as cameras
What is the "smart" aspect of this surveillance? Just looking at the monthly usage doesn't need anything connected, it can be done with old school "dumb" metres just the same.
I think there is a factual error in the article. It states: „the threshold of so-called “suspicion” has steadily dropped, from 7,000 kWh per month in 2014 to just 2,800 kWh a month in 2023. One SMUD analyst admitted that they themselves “used 3500 [kWh] last month.”
The average use of a German household is around 2500 kWh per year, even in countries with lots of single family homes, cold climate and heat pumps like Finland it’s 7000 kWh per year.
What are these people doing? Running a small aluminum smelter?
