Mac devs, couple C questions I could use help with:
I've got a C library (not one I wrote) that uses fork/execvp to call an external program and read its stdout, and I'm experiencing problems with it. I know there's been some weirdness around fork on macOS in the past few versions - is there a better-recommended way to do this? Either via POSIX or a Mac-specific API?

In exchange for some treats I've learned that a road over is a rosebush that's really good to pee on, the best sunspots to lie in are by the gay bar and I should avoid the gang of pidgeons above the grocery store because they're assholes.

The biggest lies in observability are that you can detect issues before they a) impact production, and/or b) before your customers notice.
These are a fantasy because the overwhelming majority of software is not understood well enough to actually achieve these things. This is a perfect example of theory vs. practice because in theory you should be able to detect leading indicators, but in practice there's always too much noise. And no, machine learning does not help because there's not enough resolution in the data or enough statistical context.
