3. Verleiten zur Straftatbegehung, § 357 I StGB

Sehr geehrte Staatsanwaltschaft Berlin,

hiermit erstatte ich Strafanzeige gegen sämtliche am Morgen bzw. Vormittag des 10.12.2024 am Hintereingang des Hotel Adlon, Behrenstr. 71, 10117 Berlin, anlässlich des dortigen Protestes der „Letzten Generation vor den Kipppunkten“ eingesetzten Polizeidienstkräfte der Berliner Polizei und der Bundespolizei wegen des Verdachts der mittäterschaftlichen gefährlichen Körperverletzung im Amt in der Variante des Begehens bzw. Begehenlassen sowie gegen deren Führungskräfte wegen Verleitung zur Straftatbegehung, soweit sie nicht ortsanwesend waren, insbesondere Polizeipräsidentin Barbara Slowik Meisel.
Am 10.12.2024 habe ich Kenntnis von folgendem Geschehen genommen:

schon interessant das Wahlkampf offensichtlich nur noch über Ausländerfeundlichkeit funktioniert. Die wichtigen Themen wie gute Renten, sozialer Wohnungsbau, Modernisierung des Bildungssystems, Reichensteuer, Reparatur de Infrastruktur, Digitalisierung, usw. scheinen nirgends eine Rolle zu spielen bei Konservativen. Ich bin schon gespannt, wenn es keine Migranten mehr gibt, dann müssten ja alle Probleme gelöst sein.

You could find a DIY org like TREXX in The Hague or TRENY in Nijmegen. They give workshops and provide (safe and free) necessities like those you mentioned.

I doubt one exists or could be legal. Problem is, you need standards conformance and regulatory compliance before the banks/settlement networks will allow you to connect to them—and they typically charge a per-transaction fee (hidden from the user).

Source: circa 1996-2000 I was programmer hire #1 at a credit card payment service provider (later IPO'd then absorbed by Mastercard). I'm out of date, but financial services management policy is eternal because banking regs ...

@cmdrmoto Au contraire, blockchain/bitcoin was a grift designed by a right-wing ancap/libertarian who wanted to destroy actually-existing currencies because he fundamentally misunderstood what money was/was for (because: libertarian). Then it provided a fertile crop of pyramid schemes for scammers. To hell with them all. (Credit cards and the banking biz is admittedly crap, but less prone to crime—and it's still crime-ridden—because at least it's theoretically regulated.)

General rule of thumb that's served me well: if someone is trying to sell you a new financial instrument or economic theory and you don't understand it, consider that there is a high probability that it's a scam and you're the target.

So far as I can tell, the early digital gold community was a mix of "I got mine" libertarians & "you do you" libertarians, with the former often willing to scam the latter. The more this happened, the more cultural and political power the former group got.

The latter group, for all the damage they do, is basically just guilty of uncritically accepting american propaganda designed to twist anti-authoritarian impulses into support for the right kind of authoritarian.

Don't underestimate the pernicious power of the myth that gold is money.

Gold is not money. Gold is traditionally used for counting units of money (per Graeber this goes back to bronze age temple accountants tallying tribute).

Just because something "works like" gold it does not follow that it has any inherent value.

Oh, absolutely. What I'm saying is, there were actual true believers in the 90s, not *just* grifters & their victims, and otherwise-intelligent people who were misled about really basic things (ex., told in school to believe that free-enterprise competition optimized outcomes) could get involved thinking they were doing good.

Today, it's hard for anyone to believe that cryptocurrency actually *is* doing good in the world, & folks who have read Graeber (or, hell, Marx) will recognize that it literally *can't* have many of the results that its boosters claimed.

That said, I wasn't on the mailing lists when this was going down, & read the archives decades later, & maybe I'm naively trusting that some of the better writers are genuine when they're actually pulling a Scott Alexander

@enkiv2 @cmdrmoto Bitcoin dates to 2009-ish, not the 1990s. While there were digital currency proposals in the 90s (eg. David Chaum's Digicash) they required a central register (and weren't amenable to the sort of crypto scams that have become tiresomely familiar since then).

My working hypothesis is that BtC only succeeded *BECAUSE* it was a viable vehicle for fraud.

I'm talking about the 90s because that's when the arguments about digital currency were being hashed out on mailing lists, and the culture created around those discussions is what Bitcoin was born out of (and killed).

But yeah, I agree that it probably took off in part because of the fraud potential

@cmdrmoto There are businesses that governments do not, as a matter of social policy, want to permit: child sex trafficking, illegal narcotics (this latter is *definitely* a govt. policy thing), "move fast and break things" dot-coms (allowing them to proliferate got us into this mess) and so on. Not allowing them to have access to accounting/funds transfer infrastructure is a tool of social policy.

I have a relative who has had her credit card details stolen on so many occassions that we've lost count.

She clicks every email link. She signs up to "tarot of the day" and "spirit guide" text message scams. She buys things like the GeoCleanse. She's been in MLMs and near-cults. She's never met a grift she didn't fall for.

No amount of user training is ever going to get through to this person.

She'll lose her whole life savings before she takes a moment to imagine that an email from her own personal fairy guide *might* be some sort of scam.

It is tempting to say that if you're silly enough, you deserve what you get. But it isn't true. People who make poor decisions need protection too.

This is who I imagine when I imagine the user who needs protection.

We need regulation.
