No, you just need one account. You can follow and interact with people from any instance.

It doesn't work like that, it's more about how well connected your own account is.
For example, if you have no followers then your posts will only be visible on your home instance. The more followers you get from other instances the more widely your posts will be distributed.

So, if you want your posts to show up on lots of instances, try to get a variety of people from different instances following you.

I used to have FediTips on mstdn.social and it was very easy to reach the admin if there was a problem.
I used to have FediFollows on mastodon.online (owned and run by mastodon.social) and it was impossible to reach the admin. They would fix and update stuff, but it was rare to receive direct replies.
