Printing rack mounting frames on my 3D printer has proven to be a good test for possible warping (when parts of the print bend upwards during cooling) issues. After my 5.5 hour print is almost done, I can conclude that my gray eSun PLA failed that test on the Bambulab A1 Mini.
I have a large base area print coming up and I already dread this. No idea how I'm gonna tackle that yet. Clips for the PEI plate maybe? The print warps so much that it lifts the edges of the PEI plate off the bed as the warping forces exceed the magnetic hold...
My Cute Homelab™️ [1] got a few minor updates over the weekend. All 3 ThinkCentre Tiny PCs are now from the m910 series. Two of them now have 2 network ports each. All have HDMI. And I added a 4 port KVM (Keyboard/Video/Mouse) switch for an even cleaner look and less cable switching. I consider this homelab done from the hardware side. Now the fun begins. With the software.
As I experiment a lot with open source solutions, I am always in need of a bit of compute power to run stuff on. Nowadays, with containers and automation through CI/CD, that has become a lot simpler compared to, say, 5-10 years ago.
@badnetmask I have an A1 and the heat bed doesn’t heat evenly or at the target temp. When I measured it there was a hot spot in the middle that was 2-3º C below target temp, and it got down to ~10º C below target temp at the edges. Might be worth checking if yours does the same. If so, it might help to bump the bed temp up 10º or so for prints near the edges.
Slightly bummed at the anger about some of my AI questions from yesterday. To anyone just showing up, most of what I do here is asking people questions about things, and about half the time it's literary stuff. To me it's the only thing that makes social media worthwhile!
Why do you think it is that there are so many pop books on the "heroic age" of physics while there are very few on the history of computer science, which to my mind is at least as mind-boggling and arguably more salient to modern life? I have a few guesses:
1) The heroic age of physics, so to speak, culminates in the atom bomb, which for obvious reasons is vivid 2) Maybe the characters in physics are just more interesting people? E.g. Einstein, Feynman, Schrodinger, are very charismatic/aphoristic in a way Turing or Shannon weren't?
3) However weird physics is, you can always kinda describe it with familiar ideas like particles and waves, whereas computing is fundamentally about logical formalism, which puts people to sleep.
Not sure I honestly buy any of these, though my guess is 1 is the most likely? I suppose another possibility is just that the right poet hasn't arisen to tell that story.
There's a book I've wanted to write for years, and maybe eventually will, tracing the history of computing as properly something like a quest to mechanize thought. You can see it in writing by Leibniz, Boole, Pascal, Von Neumann, etc. Not just fussing with machines/logic, but thinking about thought.
I think there's this belief that computers are a machine that does what humans are bad at, but the idea of recreating human thought has been baked in from the beginning and reiterated throughout. From Leibniz's calculus ratiocinator to ENIAC's neuron-based architecture, to today's neural networks.
And what's amazing to me is once you read their own words, almost everyone is actually thinking about thought, as opposed to just doing math or building machines or whatever.

what i can say as a user of software: most apps feel worse than they did years ago. because the resource constraints on older phones and computers meant that developers actually had to care about the resources they use. they don’t anymore and it shows. i know it doesn’t show up in any kpis. nobody gets more stock options because of it. but i notice the lags, the inconsistencies with actual native apps.

@smellsofbikes I do love tart things as well. I've tried a variety of flavors of things to help with that, most recently some tart electrolyte tablets. I figure something savory like bread might help but I don't want to take up the extra room. Hence, the idea with crepes. I wouldn't be filling them though. I was thinking just roll them up and add the flavoring to the batter. I was also thinking of doing a long flat flavored pasta which would probably be even more compact too. Think, lasagna noodles type format. But that might get too gummy.
Yeah, for me dehydration is the main enemy so I want to bring things that even if they weigh a bit more at least get more water into me. Pasta is the opposite of that!

Die UN-GA beschloss, dass die Besatzung binnen eines Jahres beendet sein muss - also bis 18. September 2025. Bis dahin sind es gerade mal acht Wochen(!) Und sie beschlossen weitere Maßnahmen einzuleiten.

Westbank/Ostjerusalem: Eine massive Beschleunigung des Siedlungsbaus, mehr Gewalt, mehr Vertreibung, mehr Zerstörung.
Und trotzdem werden weiter Waffen geliefert, weiter gehandelt als wäre nix gewesen, weiterhin keine Boykotte, keine Sanktionen. (bis auf wenige Ausnahmen)
Die deutschen Regierungen lieferte weiter Waffen. Verhinderten Maßnahmen auf internationaler Ebende. Der Deutsche Bundestag beschloss eine Resolution, die nach internationalen Recht bestehende Verpflichtungen des Staats quasi illegal erklären wollte, und deutsche Verfassungschutzbehörden gingen sogar so weit dass sie internationales Recht und damit einhergehende Verpflichtungen für verfassungsfeindlich einstuften.
