This is going to be a long rant. So buckle up.
MOST (not all) people on the Fedi don't support PeerTube content.
They might see a video in their feed, but they aren't going to watch it. And they DEFINITELY aren't browsing anyone's PeerTube instance to find videos to watch.
Everyday I see really well made videos get 14 views after a week. Even if I go to one of the more popular instances I see videos that have been up for 6 months with only 400 views. And yeah, that seems like a lot.
P.1
Another reason videos don't get seen more is that people don't share them or at least if they do, a large percentage of those that share, don't actually watch it themselves.
I get that they're trying to help, and that's great. The more help the better. I'm not knocking them. I'm just saying that even people who boost the content can't get people to watch.
Regardless, the people that do boost, are rare. I see a dozen or more new videos being made every day. You know where I never see them?
P.5
Here on Mastodon. I rarely see PeerTube videos being boosted. @FediVideo suggest great videos almost everyday, with hardly 30 boosts. That's with over 8k followers. 30.
And all of this for me leads to only one conclusion. That people on the Fedi for the most part, do not care about PeerTube.
Maybe I'm wrong. But after having helped moderate a PeerTube instance and just looking at the numbers, it's hard for me to see where my thinking is mislead.
P.6
I'm writing a story about hidden e-waste. Chips and electronics in products such as children's toys, shoes, clothes, etc.
Anyone has some funny / weird examples of products you don't expect to have chips / or that have no useful reason to have chips--but still do? Or examples of really throwaway electronics such as vapes?

🧵1/ Social media permanently changed American political campaigning, but only Republicans have changed with it.
Donald Trump won the 2024 election, not because people liked him, but because his party understands network marketing in the social media age.

I think there is another issue at play here: to really gain vote share, especially among first-time and infrequent voters, Dems would have to reach out to poor and low-income people. Doing so effectively would put them at odds with the donor class.
But in a sense this is a different aspect of the same problem! The entrenched donors, consultants, and party leadership benefit from the way things are and resist change or adaptation.

The State Department fired the remaining staff in the Office of Global Change, responsible for international climate policy, as part of a larger downsizing of nearly 3,000 employees. This leaves the State Department with no staff knowledgeable about global climate negotiations. 🤷♂️
I am loving watching the vibecoding bubble bursting and reforming in real time. It turns out it is ludicrously expensive to have humongous billion parameter models generate a whole library of code in a loop hundreds of times per hour rather than, you know, "writing code." Cursor's pricing model finally started to try and operate at less of a loss and people revolted since they could no longer autogenerate code for 8 hours solid, and now Amazon is trying to capture the runoff with a first-hit-free cursor replacement.
Very funny how, to me, FOSS is about creating a credible bulwark of power so that we aren't at the mercy of information giants, but for vibe coders it's like a "how can I get locked in and get got as deeply as possible" speedrun.

@simonmic Thanks for letting me know! I need to think about what this means for Toggl imports, but I guess overlaps can't be converted anyway (since Toggl allows them inside of the same account). Would be nice to at least have same-second end and start, and if I understand you correctly, that's something I can expect to work again in a future version.
I've created codeberg.org/scy/toggl2timeclo… for that.
