I frankly speaking didn't expect much from the FTC's case against Facebook. But reading through @pluralistic's piece, I think I should grab some popcorn and a cold beverage, sit back, and enjoy the show. #ftc #meta #monopoly

This week, Ethel Cain's album Preacher's Daughter reached the no. 10 spot on the Billboard 200 chart — a huge milestone for the transgender artist.

Yesterday, there was a strong wind, and the swallows performed some spectacular maneuvers, only a few of which I was able to capture.

From close up, I could even hear the air turbulence, which I've otherwise only heard from kites and gliders.

Right now, fresh consequences of Trump executive disobeying court orders and opinions are playing out in Texas. The situation is moving swiftly but I’m going to try to capture what is happening in this 🧵. Essential point: ignoring Supreme Court, DHS seems about to ship Venezuelans held under Trump’s AEA Proclamation to prison in El Salvador without proper notice and opportunity to rebut. 1/ #LawFedi

A co-worker of mine (who is a judge), traveled by train from Montana to North Dakota for work this week. The train made a stop in Havre, MT, where ICE agents—armed and dressed in full military-style tactical gear—boarded the train.

Update on the once stable Dutch politics: Omtzigt, who left the christian-democrats to found his own party, vowed never to co-operate with far-right Wilders, won 20 seats in the elections, helped Wilders to power, lost 18 seats in the polls, now leaves politics. All within 1.5 years.

This is Trump self-soothing because he won't die surrounded by people who love him and no one will remember him with personal fondness.

This always sets me thinking. I’m pretty sure there will one day be universal adoption of a given standard, but what? The UK/Eire design is the best (designed by a woman), even most American commentators agree, but it’s probably in the minority. The Euro one is probably the next best, and plenty of others might fit in it, so maybe that one? Love these kind of ponderings.

I'm trying to map out time to go back and deep dive on Microsoft Recall and security implications and changes since last year.

Are there any current writeups on it? I'm trying to figure out what needs concentrating on - when I'm googling, I'm just finding my own blog.

Als Antwort auf Kevin Beaumont

Okay, the Recall database is still an SQLite database in AppData. Same path.

Accessible without admin rights and without triggering UAC using TotalRecall.

It's encrypted using a .net now, AesGcm - learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotn…

I think I've found the decryption key, one for another day as I've teevee to watch now.

Als Antwort auf Kevin Beaumont

Some first impressions with Recall is they definitely took some feedback on board

- the Windows setup does ask you if you want to enable now

- first setup needs Windows Hello with biometrics (doesn't work with PIN), checked and it doesn't save anything before that

- it scans (don't know how effective) for passwords and attempts to exclude from snapshots, by default

Architecture under the hood is still largely the same as May last year. The userland processes are taking over 1.2gb of RAM.

Als Antwort auf Kevin Beaumont

Right, I’m going to put the text “Password1” on the top and bottom of all my emails to Windows users, as a talisman to ward against screenshotting.
Als Antwort auf Kevin Beaumont

Snapshot processing is actually done on the NPU now it appears, at least there's usage. Prior it actually ran on CPU. Average NPU usage is about 80%, browsing t'interwebs.

One big thing to be aware of for domestic violence scenarios - I just managed to access the Recall UI (to browse and search snapshots) using my Windows Hello PIN. It doesn't need biometrics, that failed for me as the light isn't on in my room.

That's inconsistent between the Recall setup and documentation, where it tells you biometrics is needed.

Here's what the folder structure looks like, it's basically the same as before.

Recall still scoops up WhatsApp and Signal chats, haven't tried others yet. Fully searchable and stored as text in the local Recall database. My blur on screenshot.

With the Australian federal election coming up, do you have any questions about how elections work, or how voting works, or how to correctly fill in your ballot, or anything like that? Not the politics, just the process. I worked in elections for most of the last decade and Antony Green isn’t here, so why not ask me.
Als Antwort auf SallyABL2

@SallyABL That’s my understanding of what the AEC is asking us to do. I think @damonism is going one further and saying under what situations your vote will still be counted even if it doesn’t satisfy the stated requirement.
Als Antwort auf Deborah Pickett

@SallyABL my poor understanding: if your below the line vote is valid, that’s what counts. Else, if your above the line vote is valid, that gets counted. (Note: I live in constant fear that ‘thing I believe about Australian elections in general’ is actually only true of state or federal but not both, so take with salt)

Had a wonderful afternoon with #LoveOfMyLife at (and around) Kloster Reurberg here in Bavaria. We had great food, nice long walk, met a few really nice people feom the country side who immediately gotten a liking for the two of us (inviting my wife for beer tasting at their village), and such. The weather was more cool, but it was still all-in-all a wonderful day.

Now we are relaxing a bit at home and going to bed soon.

I'm really quite amazed at how much my wife has come along this journey of ine, of ours. It is beautiful to see her gushing for my boobs and wanting to take photos of me, posing for her in special poses, and such. Sometimes I think I am in a dream, just be pulled by her and given a huge kiss. I am so lucky to have her and I am immensely thankful to the universe that brought us together back then...
