10x engineer stories never include:
- Said "I don't know, but I'll find out" instead of assuming
- Advocated for realistic deadlines rather than heroic sprints
- Handled tech debt before it became a crisis
- Documented how the last outage _really_ happened so someone else could learn
There are engineers that do these things, but they’re mere 1x engineers.
They do the thankless work so someone else can have a normal day.
Eine kleine Anekdote aus meinem Leben über Menschen und vorschnelle Schlüsse - auch sich selbst gegenüber.
Vor ein paar Wochen hatte ich Pizza bestellt. Als der Lieferant mit seinem Fahrrad kam, drückte er mir wortlos und mit versteinerter Mine den Karton in die Hand. Er war offensichtlich zornig oder angewidert.
Vor 20 Jahren hätte ich das noch persönlich genommen. Hat ihn etwas an mir gestört? Die langen Haare? Ist er transfeindlich? Kennen wir uns?
Ich machte eine scherzhafte Bemerkung.
Wir kamen ins Gespräch. Es stellte sich heraus, er konnte mich wirklich nicht leiden. Aber aus Gründen, die nicht wahr waren.
Er hatte mir das falsche Essen in die Hand gedrückt. Das Essen hatte er drei Minuten vorher am Straßenende abgeholt. Er ärgerte sich, dass ich für die drei Häuser Abstand anscheinend etwas bestellt hatte, statt es selbst abzuholen.
Als wir es im Dialog aufklären konnten, entschuldigte er sich mehrmals. Ich meinte, es ist schon okay - und wir gingen getrennte Wege.
Es gibt natürlich gute Gründe, warum ich trotzdem etwas am Straßenende bestellt haben könnte. Vielleicht bin ich krank oder habe eine Behinderung. Aber ich beließ es dann erst einmal bei diesem Austausch.
Fazit: manchmal sind Menschen einfach aus völlig unabhängigen, teilweise falsch geschlussfolgerten Gründen feindselig. Da kann man am Ende nicht viel machen. Vielleicht entwaffnend freundlich sein, wenn es nicht gefährlich wird. Aber man sollte sich nicht Nächte darüber Gedanken machen.

Ich suche nach Stammtischen, ich suche nach Veranstaltungen, ich suche nach Billard-Gelegenheiten, die kein Vermögen kosten. Wenn, dann finde ich veraltete Infos oder eben Hinweise auf oben genanntes Social-Media-Gedöns.
Nachteil zudem: ich sitz ungern bei Alk in Lokalen herum, grad weil ›Ausgehen‹ für meinen Geldbeutel ziemlich heftig ist.
Ähnliches auch in Bezug auf #Klimaaktivismus. Wird alles über Social-Media-Kommerz organisiert. Ich schaffe es nicht mal, Anschluss an die Frankfurter #Cannabis-Kultur zu finden. Clubs gibts immer noch keine im Frankfurter Raum.

This puts the government in a bind. It's perfectly legal for men to go topless, so if she's convicted (which IMO is ridiculous, but anyway...) then the state is running afoul of the Feds who deny transgender people's existence.
I think we need trans women to protest topless and trans men to demand to use women's washrooms all over the US and UK to show how ridiculous the anti-trans stance is.

#trump schränkt die Meinungsfreiheit in den USA massiv ein, baut selbst ein Medienunternehmen auf, das nur seine Narrative verbreitet. Den Umbau des Supreme Courts zu seinen Gunsten hatte er schon in seiner ersten Amtszeit begonnen.
Die Rechtskonservativen in Deutschland legen gerade erst richtig los. Nius wird zu großen Teilen von #cdu Akteuren finanziert und wirkt schon jetzt tief in die Fraktion hinein. Der erste trump´sche Schritt « Umbau des höchsten Gerichts » hat nun auch hier begonnen.

it sucks, it's not fair, but the reality is that the amount of convincing spam applications has gone up drastically.
my advice: referrals and professional networks are going to become more important than ever.
