Why oh why is the internet (spam, advertising etc.) convinced that I am interested in motorised agricultural machinery?

I am not now and never have been. Nor do I see any burgeoning interest in my future.

Obviously they’re watching your Fedi feed because I planted tractor mentions in it a few weeks ago.

The Volkswagen T1 “Frankencopter” is a unique art installation created in 2025 by Chuck Jurgen Teschke, an aircraft maintenance expert from Alberta, Canada.

This project combines a classic VW T1 split-window bus with the rear fuselage and components of an Airbus H125 helicopter, resulting in a visually striking hybrid vehicle.

And from the WTAF dept, quite a bombshell from ProPublica today:

"Microsoft is using engineers in China to help maintain the Defense Department’s computer systems — with minimal supervision by U.S. personnel — leaving some of the nation’s most sensitive data vulnerable to hacking from its leading cyber adversary, a ProPublica investigation has found."

"The arrangement, which was critical to Microsoft winning the federal government’s cloud computing business a decade ago, relies on U.S. citizens with security clearances to oversee the work and serve as a barrier against espionage and sabotage."

"But these workers, known as “digital escorts,” often lack the technical expertise to police foreign engineers with far more advanced skills, ProPublica found. Some are former military personnel with little coding experience who are paid barely more than minimum wage for the work."

can someone recommend a good and small everyday backpack with a good organizer? or a good organizer to use in classic backpacks? #followerpower
Als Antwort auf Matthias Pfefferle

I'm using a Peak Design Tech Pouch for cables and stuff, it works well with most backpacks or messenger bags.

I'm mostly carrying it in their Everyday Backpack but can't really recommend it, it's too fiddly, heavy and doesn't fit all that much.

Als Antwort auf Matthias Pfefferle

I haven’t come across anything quite as sturdy, long-lasting, and comfortable as the K2 military backpack. I got mine from a PX (Post Exchange) or a local military surplus shop in Korea, but the tricky part is that it might be a domestic-only model — it’s really hard to find on international websites.

Going to bed with one of my absolute favorite pieces in my favorite video of it. Just watch Federico Maria Sardelli use the classic baton! Someone commented in French "Sir, watch your feet!" (Lully died after injuring his foot with the sharp pin at the end of his baton) youtu.be/TDBWHs43IzE

Like I read so many threads on here that go, like,

🐰 I have a problem affecting me
🦆🐇🐴🐢🐀 40 post discussion
🐹 The actual problem is capitalism AND THAT'S THE END OF THE THREAD

And like, 🐹 isn't even wrong, the root of the problem often is capitalism (or, if you want to talk about problems like this to normal people, you can just say "greed"), but I've seen this said about the wildest fucking things and as soon as it's brought up it's like a safety valve for deflating any enthusiasm or action towards actually fixing this specific problem

🐴 Geez, the battery in this thing sure doesn't last as long as it used to
🐹 My friend, what you're observing there is called "Planned Obsolescence," one of many ways in which capitalism grinds us all down. Writing to your elected official won't solve the problem because your elected officials are PART of the problem; the only long-term solution is a radical restructuring of society from the ground up
🐴 so... like, are the replacement batteries from eBay any good, or

Been looking at Kagi for search which isn't bad but I don't want or need all the LLM stuff they put everywhere.
Is there a comparable (potentially also paid) search engine that does not spend their income building another LLM based browser or whatever?
Als Antwort auf tante

currently I'm trying #metager. No LLM what I can see and I'm fine with the search result. You have to pay for search token
Als Antwort auf tante

MetaGer would be an option... In a few months, ‘Nolm’ will also be available as a search engine project and will complete MetaGer. In general, our approach is that there should still be alternatives to LLM/ KI-based search options.

Do you think comics have gotten more social media algorithm aligned, or is it just that the ones that were already that way got more popular? I feel like I see more and more 4 panels chuckeworthy comics about relationships, food, or cats, often with boobs thrown in for some reason.
Als Antwort auf Zach Weinersmith

I'm segueing into making my revenue from books, and anyway am incapable of making jokes that people understand as relatable, but as a reader it's kind of a bummer. Like there's way more pretty good stuff and way less weird great stuff? Probably I'm just not finding it.
