There are IT professionals who have never had root on a single UNIX or UNIX-like system.

They usually think that their needle point specialization means they knows tons about that one specific thing, when in reality, they tend to have massive gaps even in their chosen field of expertise.
Love going into a new jorb, and watching people find out I'm a generalist and thinking that means I don't really know that much about networking. Then I make them eat their words
They do indeed! The whole simplification and dividing expertism and generalism is often silly at best. Used by people (often self proclaimed/perceived experts) to mask their own shortcomings while trying to project some on others (often labeled as „generalists“).
Expertise in multiple area not only exists, but is often crucial to succeed. Yet it is something organizations mostly don‘t realize they need and often even try to avoid.
It‘s one of the things behind my handle.

Pech, dass nun wieder Themen mit Brisanz und Relevanz an die Oberfläche drängen, wo wir uns doch gerade mal so schön ablenken und wichtig fühlen konnten. Und dann auch noch überall Sommerpause...
