In old Prague, the KGB spread their wings,
With fake Westerners, they played their strings.
Undercover as spies,
They told countless lies,
To infiltrate during the Prague Spring's flings.

Your experience pretty much sums up why I stopped using Linux and migrated everything to FreeBSD, except my notebook/desktop PCs.
When I first used Linux, it was because I couldn't get Windows Vista installed on my PCs at the time (driver issues), and I didn't want to spend over $100 for a Windows 7 license.
At the time, Linux Mint came up first in my search for an easy-to-use distro, so I went with it and it went surprisingly smoothly.
Before I started looking at alternative distros, I thought of the Linux community as one big happy group of like-minded people, all sharing a common interest in technology and free software.
But how wrong I was. It quickly became apparent that it was filled with elitism (you don't use arch? Only normies use ubuntu...), microsoft haters (stop using windows, even if it doesn't make sense), GPL evangelists (your license sucks because it's not ours), infighting, constant drama (*cough* systemd / poettering), and a general toxic attitude towards any views that don't align with theirs.

There is only one way to end the war: put pressure on the Russians. The Trump people did the opposite: put pressure on Ukraine, and relieved pressure on Russia. They have made the war worse while talking of "peace."
Putin's truce came out of the blue,
Claiming Russia would halt on the cue.
But can we believe
It's a reprieve?
Or just a temporary breakthrough?

Whose opinions caused quite a stance.
He talked with a cardinal,
In a manner quite cardinal,
Creating a dialogue so grand.
