Also veranstalten wir am 26. Februar von 17:30-18:30 einen virtuellen KrautPress Website Club (in Anlehnung an den Homebrew Website Club) in dem wir an Simons, eurer und meiner Webseite basteln. Es wird um die Themen Social Web im Allgemeinen und dem IndieWeb und dem Fediverse im Speziellen gehen. Wir werden nicht über SEO oder Web-Shops sprechen 😉

I'm glad this got shared! I also watched this (long time fan of this channel) and immediately thought that is solarpunk as fuck!
People will (understandably) have some reservations about the crickets, but there are some really awesome ideas being put into practice here.
I like it that they are growing their own mushrooms and utilizing the substrate byproducts.
It's cool to see all of their inspirations they've collected from different places they've gone to and all of their experiments (like the arid desert climate one especially).
I really like their mechanical contraptions that combine exercise and functional necessities for energy saving purposes.

We plan to achieve this with a combination of a top-down (FEP-driven) and bottom-up (implementor-first) approach. While this sounds incongruent, top-down approaches tend to overcomplicate and bottom-up approaches tend to violate the protocol (unintentionally of course :joy:.)

The bottom-up approach is results-oriented, and while certain implementors may follow certain FEPs, the overarching goal is "cross-compatible conversational backfill".
Separately, these implementors are (or have signalled interest in) implementing conversational backfill:

What's Next
This thread will likely contain updates and discussion from related parties about their implementations and what they wish to do next. In the cruelest irony of ironies, because conversational backfill is not ubiquitous yet, you will need to "View Original URL" in order to see all of the replies.

Knapp 17 Jahre nach der ersten und fast 14 Jahre nach der letzten Episode des OpenWebPodcasts darf ich wieder mit Gästen über das Fediverse, das IndieWeb, das OpenWeb im Allgemeinen und diesmal speziell (aber nicht zwingend) im Kontext von WordPress sprechen.
Same Same But Different: Der Titel ist erschreckend ähnlich (obwohl ich damit nichts zu tun hatte und Bob den OpenWebPodcast nicht einmal kannte), die Themen sind auch gleich (ich bin leider inselbegabt) mit dem neuen Fokus auf WordPress und auch bei den Gästen wird es vielleicht Überschneidungen geben.
Was wirklich neu ist: Der Podcast ist auf Englisch – und genau davor hatte/habe ich bisher den größten Respekt.
Die erste Episode ist schon „im Kasten“ und sollte in den nächsten zwei Wochen live gehen (ich glaube es wird sogar ein Video geben). Ein riesiges Dankeschön vor allem an @alex, dass er als mein erster Gast das Versuchskaninchen gespielt hat ☺️

The solution to this was to ensure that the collection items were in chronological order from oldest to newest. Once fixed:

Personally I think removing the sorting just to fix one edge case was premature. At the same time, I think specifying that the OrderedCollection be sorted in chronological order should be a requirement.
I think @silverpill@mitra.social is right though, your context.first needs an id. I worked around it but it's better to have it so it can be referenced against by another page's prev.

Hmm, so that video was a bit odd. I guess trying to reclaim Scandinavian traditions from right-wing grifters is not necessarily bad, but for me as a European born and raised in a northern European country, I feel no relation to these at all. And what I know of it is either Americanized pop culture or mostly faux BS that some fascists made up to justify their blood and soil ideology.
I mean, sure there are some archeologist digging up that stuff and so on, but it is almost as far gone as the ancient pyramid stuff is to a modern Egyptian.
This specific guy does a lot of work to explore animism and think that it’s a way for us to reconnect to nature. He is danish so his approach is through Scandinavian animism. It doesn’t have to be correct, because animism is not a dogmatic religion, it’s alive and traditions evolve over time. Of cause he does take a lot of inspiration from traditional Nordic mythology and religion and we do know a decent amount, because we have texts and runes. And he advocate that it’s a way to deal with climate crisis. I suggest you read Evergreen Ash - Ecology and Catastrophe in Old Norse Myth and Literature, if you find it interesting.
We do know a lot from archeology and so on, yes. But the same is true for ancient egypt.
But at least to my knowledge, there is next to no continous practise of these traditions anywhere in Europe for many generations now.
I mean if historical reenactment is a hobby this guy enjoys doing, fine with me. But I see very little point in trying to revive a tradition that is that long dead and forgotten.
He is a scholar with a phd in history and religion. The point is that are in a time where we need to reconnect with nature. A bit like we are trying to do with solar punk. And you can’t do that with Christianity. You could even argue that the Abrahamic religions are an indirect cause of the climate crisis, because it makes human the most important species with the right to rule over nature.
A lot of native people have an animist religion with a deep connection to nature and the western world need to rediscover that. At least that’s what a lot of modern animist believe. I think it’s worth exploring.

That’s basically the entire problem in a nutshell.
I think a lot of these people are cunning, aka good at somewhat sociopathic short term plans and thinking, and they confuse this ability (and they survivor biassed success) for being good at actual planning (or just thinking that planning is worthless, after all move fast and break things (and never think about what you just said)). You don't have to actually have good plans if people think you have charisma/a magical money making ability (which needs more and more rigging of the casino to get money on the lot of risky bets to hope one big win pays for it all machine).
Doesn't help that some of them seem to either be on a lot of drugs, or have undiagnosed adhd. Unrelated, Musk wants to go into Fort Knox all of a sudden, because he saw a post on twitter which has convinced him 'they' stole the gold (my point here is that there is no way he was thinking about Knox at all before he randomly came across the tweet, the plan is crayons).
I'm sorry 'they' did what? Everyone knows you can't rob Fort Knox. You have to buy up a significant fraction of the rest of the gold and then detonate a dirty bomb in Fort Knox to reduce the supply and- oh my God bitcoiners learned economics from Goldfinger.

This is due to Directive (EU) 2019/882 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 April 2019 on the accessibility requirements for products and services (Text with EEA relevance) (source) entering into force June 28 this year.
As the Adobe DRM solution hasn't been updated for years, it isn't capable of fulfilling all the requirements that this law lays out without endangering the DRM solution. Text-to-speech is one function that isn't fully supported by Adobe for example. This means that there are apparently two directions to go for full compliance, Readium DRM which is barely s

This is frustrating on so many levels, especially if I would like to borrow an ebook in my native language that isn't available elsewhere on the web, which is often the situation for books in my language (and I'm guessing most languages outside of English). The alternatives left is borrowing a physical copy, or buying it.

The way it works is that the post is made from wordpress’ command-line interface. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, that api doesn’t support setting a featured image. So the workflow is:
1. Create post 2. Upload and set image to be post’s featured image (one command)
However, before the edit at stage two is made, the post is already federated out, including to pixelfed which sees that there is no image and ignores the post, unfortunately. I was hoping to make this system an easy way for me to support pixelfed. I can see the update seems to allow it to show on Lemmy and Mastodon, but pixelfed is currently ignoring it.
Any suggestions or thoughts?

🤔 the plugin should also send any update that is made after the initial publish. so (if pixelfed does support these updates (post without image, update with image)) then it should work out of the box.

Consequently, other software which does not have such a conceptual limit is forced to declare their actors as one of the five types, or else Mastodon users will not be able to follow their actors. [ActivityPub] says that there is no specified mapping between "users" and "actors", but Mastodon's interpretation of "actors" as "users" de facto disallows following anything but a strict subset of resources.
We may therefore express Mastodon's requirements as follows:
The actor MUST have a type of any of Person, Group, Organization, Application, Service.
The actor MUST have an inbox where the Follow will be sent.
A proposed modified requirement and algorithm are as follows:

I didn't say that subscriptions are limited to people. Actors can be organizations and applications too, and in Mastodon all actors are represented as "users" and "accounts". This is a very reasonable decision.A topic can be represented by application actor. This is already possible, you don't need to re-define Follow activity for that.
Nothing is a "new interpretation", it's an existing pattern that interactions sometimes go to attributedTo.inbox. For example when you Like something, if it doesn't have an object.inbox you check the object.attributedTo.inbox and send it there. But maybe it is better to not think of it as a future goal but rather as reminder of the possibilities. All too often we restrict our thinking to what we think is realistic and that then becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy by itself.

Das Social Web BOF („Birds of a Feather“) bot eine Stunde voller kurzer (10-minütiger) Vorträge. Ich hatte mir zwar etwas anderes darunter vorgestellt, aber auch diese Präsentationen waren unterhaltsam und interessant.
Bei den Social Web After Hours im HSBXL Hackerspace hatte ich die Gelegenheit, meinen Vortrag über WordPress zu halten – worüber ich mich natürlich sehr gefreut habe. Aber ehrlich gesagt, hätte es mir auch gereicht, die Zeit mit Gleichgesinnten zu verbringen und ein Bier zu trinken. 😉
Es war überwältigend, so viele Menschen zu treffen, die sich mit dem gleichen Thema beschäftigen. Ich habe nicht oft die Gelegenheit, mit Gleichgesinnten zu fachsimpeln, und habe die kurze Zeit daher umso mehr genossen!
Weil die meisten Fediverse-Events hauptsächlich in den USA stattfinden, konnte ich viele, deren Wirken im Open Web ich schon lange online verfolge, zum ersten Mal persönlich treffen!

I'm Clockwork, an Italian solarpunk physicist, juggler and writer. I would like share my website with you; I've set it up two years ago with zero html knowledge and I have given it a new revamp recently. Since I write in English but the publishing system is extremely walled, I want to make myself known among likeminded people without selling my soul.
I write mostly solarpunk (you can check out the short story page and the Meteorina "saga" (three long stories, with a fourth one coming soon), but you can also find some Neolithic fantasy and scifi with community and resistance themes. All stories are FREE TO DOWNLOAD; there are no Amazon links and most files are interoperable and freely accessible. There is a donation button but I'd rather you enjoy these stories in a non-transactional way.

Hi! Please consider offering downloads in epub format as well as PDF. PDF is difficult to work with, particularly when it has a hardcoded dark background like the Meteorina files. I am not able to read these comfortably on my e-reader, for example.
If you have source files in some other form you might be able to convert them easily to epub with something like Pandoc. I'd be willing to help figure out the process if you can send me a source sample to work with.
I have other formats for the novels, but now that the Meteorina project is becoming bigger I should provide epub files too. I'll work on adding more buttons and get back to you in a couple days!

Where have you been hiding! I just checked out one of your solarpunk short stories (Martedì // Tuesday, thank you for writing and translating). I loved how much dialogue there was. I don't usually think of more "technical" minded people (like physicists) as being so focused on characters (we often focus on technology or systems), but that shows my prejudice I guess!

Your prejudice was half-right actually: tech and systems are what I really want to explore, but I use shorter stories as "experiment" to practice other aspect of storytelling too. After all, characters are the most powerful illusion spell on the reader!
What's going to be next: - More Meteorina adventures (surely one on Elba, maybe one on Albanian shores considering the shitshow going on with the Italian govt nowadays? Good catch and important question. That would be good feedback if there's a place to submit that. It's unfortunate they default to hierarchical structures and more collective aspects would definitely be more solarpunk.
Organizing our communities horizontally and managing to draft collectively our own programmatic agendas helps us break the supposed juxtaposition between political visions of a better society and what is politically feasible in the meantime.
I tried apps like Klima and Earth Hero. Earth Hero is especially good but I would like to play with the numbers myself for specific scenarios like snapshots of my emissions, planning my next year, logging my specific air travel, hobbies, etc.
If anyone has a spreadsheet model I would be grateful. Otherwise I can build one. Earth Hero gives a lot of references to their source models.

Even though I mostly agree with the conclusion of this article, it is a pretty bad take otherwise. They even partially contradict themselves and in general seem to think that there is no such thing as an equilibrium, but only boom or bust (and yes reaching and maintaining an equilibrium is hard work).
If I had time and motivation I would write an parody on this article from the view of the late Roman empire where a person complains about how society can not survive without slave labor and how everything is build on it and so on. Yes, the Roman empire did eventually collapse, but not because of a lack of cheap slave labor.

If this is true, then it's a remarkable bit of SF foresight, because in 2010, Musk was nowhere near what he is now. He wasn't even in the top 100 richest. He was rich, but not even a billionaire. It was such a different time that even Jeff Bezos was just #43 in the world (this is from Forbes 2010). We didn't yet have our current technofeudalism centered on Internet tycoons; the tech tycoons in the top 10 were Bill Gates and Larry Ellison.
Regarding the main topic of this thread, I too had wondered if the name is a clue that Elon was the golden child of some secret cult of upper-class Space Nazis, their anointed one destined to realize the Iron Dream. But if one is to entertain such thoughts, you should be aware that it was also the middle name of a maternal great-grandfather, John Elon Haldeman, who was apparently a Minnesota school teacher who emigrated to Canada with his chiropractor wife.

People were able to live side by side with so many animals over millennia without destroying entire populations. So I'd say that humans using animals instead of machines can be quite solarpunk.
I haven't seen the video yet. Solarpunk imagines a future where machines serve humans and animals and not the other way around. Animals have a role of mutually beneficial collaboration but not of unilateral exploitation by humanity. Humanity finally becomes what it should be: a responsible custodian of planet Earth and understands and studies the needs and wants of all beings that live on it.
I know you mean well, but the first part of your comment is an appeal to nature - the assertion that because some thing is natural, that it is good, or at least unavoidable. In reality it sidesteps the question: is animal exploitation part of solarpunk?
I believe in harm reduction and imperfect solutions, so I would say yes, to a certain degree.
But I don't want to be all negative (doomerism is the antithesis of solarpunk after all). You raise some good examples, and for my part, if we can show that animal suffering under human care is less than if they were left totally free, then I would feel a lot less gross about it.
I never said that animal exploitation is good, just that it is 'natural' in the world. Solarpunk, as an idea, has everything to do with nature. Coexisting and living with it, rather than against it.
Is it wrong to use ladybugs as a form of pest control instead of harmful chemicals?
It's it wrong to ride a horse around a farm instead of an ATV or even an electric UTV?
Additionally, the definition of exploitation can vary wildly from person to person, and even moreso between cultures. So imo, pretty much everything that happens in the animal kingdom is party of solarpunk. The "good" and the "bad." As nothing is all good or all bad. Even murder can be justified in the most extreme cases (i.e. Hitler, Stalin, Trump, billionaire CEOs, etc )

I think this reasoning applies well to solarpunk. It’s true that ethical consumerism doesn’t scale etc but we have to resist the urge to give money to the people who will commodify solarpunk just for cheap merch and media.
For example: game full of bad messages but made by a workers coop and ethically distributed > game with solarpunk aesthethic made by limited liability company that took or wants to take VCs money and run in the capital race

An interesting exception to this trend (so far) is the furry community. We're too queer, weird, and unapologetically degenerate for most companies to want to have anything to do with us. There's a reason why you get furries being thirsty for Tony the Tiger, and horniness is only part of the picture. It's also a shield that keeps the corpos out.
I first learned about "furries" when they hacked some high-rank US things, reporting was done by commoditized content farmers on youtube, I think this is a bad sign for that community as well.

Minor note, but Musk wears that jacket everywhere, even at a suit and tie dinner with Trump. I don't get how Trump (if my assumptions on him wanting to be seen as a certain type of having class/higher society type) stands him. Looking at the picture, he might be having second thoughts all the time.

People will (understandably) have some reservations about the crickets, but there are some really awesome ideas being put into practice here.
I like it that they are growing their own mushrooms and utilizing the substrate byproducts.
It's cool to see all of their inspirations they've collected from different places they've gone to and all of their experiments (like the arid desert climate one especially).
I really like their mechanical contraptions that combine exercise and functional necessities for energy saving purposes.
Their space is really cool and inspirational.
