You’ll be lucky if that app even has a functional search, and you can imagine how much cognitive energy you’ll have to spend looking for it."

Imagine a fictional app called Thneed that can track my chats in multiple apps, without implementing any C2S protocols internally.

* When I create a Thneed chat, it opens the address book so I can choose a contact, and if I have more than one for them, choose which address to chat with them on.

* Once I've typed a message in that chat and hit send, Thneed opens the default app on my device for the app associated with that address, and forwards the text of my message to that app

* Maybe Thneed could leverage OpenPush in some way to track replies, and create a button in the Thneed chat to open that reply in the correct app?

* Thneed could have a fairly usable search based on something like Fossify Messages, which would allow me to find chats. Searching for either contacts' names or keywords from my own messages (plus any replies that can be pulled in via OpenPush, etc).

Again, it's not the ideal solution. But could be worth a try as a Free Code app?

Now in theory, you could have a DC-like app that uses other protocols to add extra features, but keeps email protocols for text delivery and attachments, and whatever else it can do. But I'm guessing there's reasons OG Jabber wasn't built around email protocol. Just like there's reasons OG Twitter and the fediverse weren't built on XMPP.

But maybe a graceful fallback to email delivery could be a thing in for private messages in apps that use realtime federation protocols?

Roman elites drank from leaded cups because it made water sweeter. Radiation was thought at one time to have healing properties, so people would add uranium to their drinking water. Glowing dishes are still a collectors item. After the discovery of x-rays, shoe stores started installing them and using them on kids feet to size shoes. Lead was added to gasoline to improve engine performance, and paint to make it whiter. We all know about asbestos and DDT.

We look back at all of this and think, "how could people have been so incompetent back then?" Some of these things caused irreparable harm in their generation, some continue to cause harm today almost 100 years later.

Wir lehnen diesen spezifischen Dresdner Opfermythos konsequent ab und wenden uns entschieden gegen geschichtsrevisionistische Tendenzen, die weit über Dresden hinaus zu beobachten sind. "Nie wieder Deutschland!" bleibt uns Verpflichtung.

Autoritarismus, Geschichtsumdeutung und Antisemitismus sind aber nicht auf die rechte und rechtsoffene Bevölkerung sowie die selbsternannte bürgerliche Mitte beschränkt.
